Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft might get away with weak hardware and still sell well because of other stuff and that makes me sad...

usuallly Microsoft fans say dont buy a wii u, buy an xbox its all about power.

When xbox is perceived as less powerful then ps4 they say power isnt everything

Remember the first gen the Xbox came out? It was all about the power.

Super NES?

Neo Geo.

But let's be completely serious here, the current generation is the ONLY one where the capabilites/horsepower have had nothing to do with the way the market share has turned out. The other generations, not entirely, but it has played a part in their success in some form or another.

Wii - tapping into an unexplored market

360 - significantly cheaper, 3rd party support on par (better intially) with Sony's

PS3 - namesake established from the PS1 and PS2's unprecented success

Doesn't mean it won't happen.

Absolutely. The OP just seemed to imply that the strongest always wins.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

Look at what the more powerful consoles were though. Either they were the most expensive (sometimes way overpriced), beaten to the punch by a console that was already highly successful, or had no previous history in the industry. The PS4 is the most powerful and is not the most expensive, was not beaten to the punch by a successful console (relatively speaking), and has a brand history.

Weak hardware? It may not be the strongest but it is definitely not a slouch. It can definitely hold its own.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

Well yes, the market is shrinking and the gamers will shape out how the gen starts this gen. Theres no casual Wii crowd adding to the overall sales (or that we know of just yet).

First off, minor differences, not substantial.  Let's not stretch things more than they are or over react like people already have.

And i certainly dont think XBO will sell the most but I do want to show you this.

Wii - 100m sold
PS2 - 150m sold

Both were the weakest console.

Don't forget Dreamcast pls

Neo Geo didnt die fast it actually existed for long. Longer than 3do, jaguar, amiga cd and many more

Weak hardware? No.
Weaker than the PS4? Sure.

Right now the biggest difference we're seeing is higher resolutions on PS4. Both platforms can still easily share games.

Its like we're comparing two PCs, but one has a video card that's moderately more powerful. They can both play the same games, but performence may not be as good on one unless some settings are tweaked.
