Forums - Gaming Discussion - Brasil Game Show: Next-Gen Ethomaz's Impressions (Games, Systems, Controllers and Maybe Bananas)

Hi everybody.

Sorry for the delay but I have a lot of job here... even my girlfriend said that I need to take a break (I was working even at night ).

So my full impressioans from everything that happened at Brasil Game Show 2013 (pictures and videos in the second post).

CONSOLES

  • PS4 - Ohhhhh it is bealtiful... I know I'm biased but it really looks better than any launch console Sony already made (maybe PSTwo looks better but it is not a launch console). It is small, so small... and the led light is cool and futuristic.
  • Xbone - For my surprise the console didn't look too big like I thought seeing pictures... it have a normal size but PS4 looks so small that make it look big. The design is ok... didn't look like a DVR system or DVD player or anything that you put close to your HTDV... it looks like a console but the details is a little ungly but not exagerated... It reminded me the black 360.

CONTROLLERS

  • Dual Shock 4 - The fist time you touch it is magical. Yeah, DS3 never give that to me. It feels good on the hands. The sticks are the best ever created for a PS console, they are AMAZING, maybe the best ever created for any controoler (I'm sure you won't note if it is symetrical or not). The triggers feels AMAZUNG too and the bumpers looks great... it is a fantastic experience. The D-Pad é top nouch like any other Dual Shock and the touch is fine (I can't use it). It is like a dream in the hands. I couldn't find any issue with the controller.
  • Xbone's Controller - The biggest complain about 360's controller for me were D-Pad and size... so it never felt good on my hands... now the Xbone's controller fixed the two things. It feels great in my hands and the D-Pad works pretty well (yet is not at DS level but it improved a lot). The trigger are like the 360's controller. The controller is really better than the previous but there are a big issue for me... I can't use the bumpers... that it my fingers can't use the bumpers because where I touch them is a place that didn't works (is a dead zone)... the trigger and bumpers are close but you will never press both at the same because you always reach the deadzone of the bumpers (I'm being serious here I can't use the bumpers one time while my two hands in the controller... I needed to hold it with one hand and use the other only to touch the bumper because I was thinking it didn't work at all). For the new impulse triggers look at Forza.

GAMES

  • Killzone: Shadown Fall - It is once for all the most beautiful next-gen game that I played but I expected more. Not just from it but for all next-gen games, they are not the leap I expected... they look (and in the case of Killzone) far way better than this gen games but I expected more. Well about the game is looks gorgeous with a mix between Killzone 3 and Halo in terms of art style, tha animations are really good too. Who liked Killzone 2/3 will love this game... only the multiplayer was playable for 10 minutes between 12 players per team (6x6). Day-one buy for sure. The biggest lines in the even with over 2 hours to play.
  • Gran Turismo 6 - Played it two time and it is almazing. Drive Club have the enviropment with more details and Forza 5 better cars but overall GT6 didn't look like this gen game. You wont notice the gap between this and next-gen because it is more smooth and has way less aliagin than the other two. The demo I played have issues with framerate (screen tearing) in cokpit view but all the other camare works fine. The event had 16 machines to play and the only driving game with wheel and pedals... the lines was big but 16 persons with only two laps in Susuka (~2 minutes per person) make the line going fast... less than 40 minutes to play.
  • Knack: Looks good, play good, feels good but... I don't know... there is a but... lacks something that I can't understand yet maybe charisma. It will be a solid 8/10 title and I see people like me having fun with it but it is not a blockbuster. A game to buy if it get cheaper or you are bored. For my surpise it was the second most wanted next-gen game in the event with 8 machines and lines a little over 1 hour. There are framerate issues in some scenes.
  • DriveClub: In terms of enviropment this game blow away every other game. Plays like PGS and I have a lot of fun with it. If Evolution improved it I can see it like the racing game of the new generation for while. He is not a realistic racing so the sense of speed is far way bigger than Forza of GT... it is a really nice experience. The bad part is that this game have a lot of aliasing... I think only Forza 5 beat it in term of jaggies. The small line of the PS4 games... less 30 minutes with 4 PS4s.
  • Forza 5: No. When the race started the impulse triggers din't make me almost fall drop the controller... the vibration is small and somekind cool (no Selnor it doesn't help you to feel the driving it is a new drive assist for Forza... it vibrates before the turn start... it is not reactive to what are you doing... it is to alert you... so you can disable this drive assist like any racing sim will do). The cars look gorgeous and the track are well normal... so biggest improviment are the cars. The physics was the same so you can drive all the race without need to use the brake (only not pressing the accelaration in the turns). It is a Forza with better graphics and a lot of jaggies... I mean there is no AA in this game... it have more jaggies than DriveClub... and there are some screen tearing too. The smallest and fast line from Xbone games... some 40-50 minutes with 4 machines (it was a bigger line than Dead Rising 3 but two Xbones crashed so the time here was bigger than Forza).
  • Killer Instinc: The controller are good, the art style nice but the graphics are this-gen... there are PS360 fighting games that looks close to it. It is fun to play but not competitive (it won't be popular in EVO). The camera get too close and make the chars fill all the screen when you get close (I didn't like that because I like more strategy with the field view). Even so the game is really fun and I love fighting game. If you are fan of KI then you will be disapointed a little because the game didn't remember the old ones, for me that is neither good or bad... the game have it own style and gameplay. Day-one buy if I'm a Xboner. The lines are the second biggest in the Xbone booth... 4 machines with over 1 hour and 30 minutes to play.
  • Dead Rising 3: It is Dead Rising with this gen graphics and a lot of zombiees on screen (way more than this gen)... I don't like but if you like it is your game. I didn't see any framerate issue but the graphics are really weak compared to the others next-gen games. The line are the same size of Forza 5 but the wait was bigger because from the 2 of 4 machines crashed and they just replaced one.
  • Ryse: Look gorgeous but in terms of graphics the GoW III didn't stay too behind... same that I said to Killzone: I was a little dissapointed with the graphics. Don't get me wrong it looks really impressive, the second more beautiful game in next-gen consoles behind only Killzone 3. The worst part wasn't the gameplay but it animation... they are terrible... break all the immersion for me. If Crytek fix the animations then can turn to be a good game but for now it is really broke in gameplay wise. The biggest line for Xbone with over 2 hours of wait with 4 machines.

NOTES & CURIOSITIES

  • I won a mega super Gran Turismo hat.
  • Watch_Dogs was being showed in a secret door but it was not playable... only a gameplay footage like a theater.
  • Have you seen Titanfall?
  • When I was in the Forza 5 line the MS's girl choose me to make a interview... her question was "What your favorite game?", I was using a Gran Turismo hat and her asked me that I even thought to trololol but I awnsered "Racing games"... she "so you like Forza?" me "ohhh yeah huhhuuuuu".
  • While I was playing Killer Instinct I saw two Xbones crashing on the other side running Dead Rising 3... the guy replaced one but they didn't have another console to replace the other.
  • All games was played in 32" HDTVs.
  • I supose all PS4 games were running in devkits because I looked in a hollow in the box and saw a write console (like the devkit one).
  • I supose all Xbone games were running in Xbone retail but the TVs where the Xbones crashed stay showed the intro of Dead Rising for ever (like a trailer) so the TVs are connected with some other source too.

MY BANANA

  • I don't want to talk about that... sorry.

Any question ask me... there are more games that I played... some indies.

Thanks

What are your impressions on ac4 on next gen? Looking at some comparison vids online, it doesn't seem all that diff from current gen. The most notable diff seems to be the water. As for kz, did you see a diff between the muti and single player graphically? How was the ai? oh, how was contrast(psn title)?

I'm glad you didn't notice any lag with Dead Rising 3 ^^ I guess Capcom managed to fix that in time, thank god.

Now I'm worried that Dead Rising 3 is a possible RROD-bringer, judging what you're telling us that it broke twice.

Nice. Haven't had the chance to get my hands on either of the next gen consoles but I am looking forward to holding the new DS4.

I foget that... it playes like AC and the graphics are little better than Revelations (the last AC I played on PS3)... not impressed... the gameplay looks exactly the same... I didn't played it but I saw for some minutes some guys playing.

There are 4 PS4 running it but the lines was for these 4 or 4 other indie games... so when was your time you choose AC4 or one of the indies.

sounds like you had a blast.

I don't see why people expect leaps in graphics these days? Graphics have reached a plateau and the only thing that would be considered a leap is a game that looks like Avatar.

It is not my type of game but I didn't note any framerate issue... seems really locked... a good thing is that it have way more zoombies than the old games on the screen... the graphics (except the cutscenes) are the less "impressive" of the next-gen games.

What do you mean, except the cutscenes? The use a different engine for the videos?
