Moderator or no, I tend to call a spade a spade. His lines tend to be straight out of the Malstrom playbook, down to the insistence that anything that deviates from the playbook is a hideous waste of time and money at best, or some unholy abomination more likely. It breeds a persistent negativity almost as bad as the Nintendo haters from the other side.

Your spades sound more like whimpers tbh. And as a mod maybe you should be a bit more even keeled.

In any case, what would you rather a fan be? Someone who sticks their head in the sand and pretend a company they grew to love is making detrimental decisions that continue to prove a detriment to that business? Or speak out and voice constructive criticism? Being a 'hardcore' nintendo fan is worst than a hater or a critic. For obvious reasons.

I am most certainly a fan of Mals, but by no means am I a drone of his. At least not as much a drone of his as you may be of Nintendos.

You seem to be politically minded, so what is said to be the highest form of patriotism?

I have my critiques of Nintendo, but i feel that trashing the Wii U is really not going to get anyone anywhere, since the console is what it is. Let's talk about how to right the ship rather than gleefully watching it burn so that we can later build a new ship. Certainly there are hard things to be done. To parallel American politics again, it's like all the bashing of any various environmental or business regulations: they're there, they're law, trying to get rid of them is denial of political reality, try to fix them, instead.

Calling for heads to roll at Nintendo, or even having actual heads roll, is not going to do anything. If executed recklessly, it would be worse than doing nothing.

I simply advocate for reality, rather than idealistic purity.

Ok, lets get down to this, instead of taking subtle (and not so subtle swipes lol) at each other, Tell me some of your critiques you have with Nintendo?

Lets deal with the reality. Wii U is floundering, I've posted many times of reasons I think it is floundering about. From the Gamepad to the software being greenlit. I actually like Iwata, but I do think also that being a former dev, hes empathetic to developers. I've voiced this plenty of times in the past, even before I've read Malstroms take. I do believe that the software NIntendo has released thus far  was not the right kind of software for creating momentum for the console. I do believe the Wii U has more in common with Gamecube than it does the Wii.

You know me, I loved the Wii, was a huge fan and advocate for it. I've always been a Nintendo fan at heart. But the Wii U doesn't entice me at all. In fact it repels me. Nintendo's problem is not third party support. They've always had third party resistance. Nintendo is the only company that is in control of its own fate.

Why was Pikmin 3 made? Wind Waker? These games are Gamecube games. I'm not saying they don't have their fans, but if you are running a business, do you invest in those two games out the gate? Or do you create a HD Wii Sports Sequel? I'm no mouthpiece for no one but myself. Let me be clear, The reality is, Khan, many former Wii owners are repelled by the Wii U. Nintendo has a fire within their fanbase. Since none of us are on the inside, we can only speculate. But behavior they've exhibited is all we have to go on.

You have your ideas and perspectives on how Nintendo can turn this system around..I'd like to hear them actually. I have my ideas as well.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Of course he is unhappy, they made a product thinking it will make tons and tons of money, but no, Iwata is not going anywhere.

Menx64

3DS code: 1289-8222-7215

NNid: Menx064

I would rather not see Iwata leave, as he has been a very successfully CEO. I'm not going to jump down the guys throat, especially without key Wii U Software launching yet.

Please understand

The only way for Nintendo to win is to move their 8-12 year old target audience to the 12-18 year old range.

I think the only way Iwata will get fired is if the WiiU ends up discontinued before at least 4 years of life due to low sales.

Maybe they should try to make their own original first person shooter in the vein of Call of Duty or Battlefield, but with some use of the Game Pad that makes it unique.

Getting leadership that knows what its doing might "help right the ship", no? If I was a stock holder I would be furious at the stock diving off a cliff and constant missing of sales targets.

The situation is not going to get better if the suits that run the ship are constantly out of touch, so us formulating plans to improve the situation means nothing. We can say for example they should market better, but if they don't know that or don't know how, then what's the point.

Dude's tripping. But its not just him. But as preisdent he should be able to reign in his troops. Every dev at Nintendo (save for Retro) has been given the priveledge to find their inner Picaso, and not bend toward commercial interests. Unreal.

I hope this is just lip service, he can't be that naive.

Why do you say that? Retro Studios claimed that making another DKC game was its own idea. Is it because you dislike DKC and think it impossible for the upcoming game to be awesome?

Even funnier is that DKC was their most succesfull Retro title ever. How can it not be "commercial" when you're making a sequel to the most succesfull game Retro made?

You misunderstood me as well? Retro is the only dev studion beholden to commercial interest. Because DK sold as well as it did they were told to make another.
