So, I am considered to be an active account even though I haven't used Steam for months now.

If you haven't logged in for months, then no you're not considered an active user.

The same can't be said about Xbox Live and the Playstation Network, they count everyone even if you haven't logged in for years, which makes Steams numbers even more impressive.

Steam logs me on start up so, yes, I am an "active" user. I just never use it.

Well. I've signed up for both Xbox Live and Playstation Network, I haven't logged into the Playstation network in years.
Yet, in Sony's numbers I'm consdered an "active user".

Sony doesn't use the term "active". Are you from Australia, btw?

No they don't, I think they include all users which is why their numbers are huge and not comparable. Live have an 8 month cutoff for "active" and as far as I'm aware, EA report registered users rather than active users.

None of the numbers are comparable to each other but Valve are the only ones who have a strict 1 month cutoff.

You can disable the startup:

Setting>interface

Untick the "Run Steam when my computer starts" box.

Should save some system resources for you
