If Sony died, it would only be to troll the competition and give them false hope. Other manufacturers' dreams and aspirations would raise extremely high, only for Sony to bring them smashing to the ground as the surprisingly "revive" themselves. Worse yet, when Sony does come back, they'll be ten times stronger and their first launch title would be The Last Guardian. Microsoft/Nintendo would drop out of the industry immediately.

This sounds very likely!

I would just play Uncharted and other exclusives on a different plastic box. As long as their games are still of quality i wouldnt be bothered.

Of course like you said they arent going anywhere though :)

I'm sure they won't go anywhere!

What do you think about the Steam Machines? Will they rise to be a big competitor this gen? Or will they be a niche product?

Most of the sony audience just play shooters, realistic racing simulators and good action games.

You can find those anywhere.

It's not like being a Nintendo gamer and the company bails out of the game. Nobody else has Mario, not even the rip offs come close. Same thing for Animal Crossing, Pikmin, Zelda, you name. Nintendo is much more unique than the others.

For the Microsoft case, I think if I ask some people to name 5 microsoft IP's they gonna struggle.

Niche.  I dont know who they're market is honestly.   The PC market that is use to Steam and Valve will stay on PC.  The Console market will likely ignore it or just get a PC instead.  I just dont think it will appeal to that many people unless im missing something somewhere.

I think it will be a niche but you never know with new consoles! The problem is if that it takes off, will someone have to go? Because I see that most consoles generations only had 2 or 3 big consoles competing... 4 is a lot. Is the market ready?

I'll be honest and say I wouldn't care. That's not to say I wanna see them go, but if they did it wouldn't have any real impact on my gaming. Their good first party games would inevitably come to other systems, and MS gets all the same third party support so really I'm not losing anything I'm fond off. There would be less competition though, so that's a negative.

Anyway, I don't think we have to worry about this. If there's one area in which Sony still does pretty well it's gaming. Playstation brand is massively popular around the world, and that division no doubt weathered it's worst storm with the PS3 launch. They're in a good spot now, and I don't really see any reason for that to change

Nintendo would then be the last Japanese manufacturer and it might help their long term positioning as niche/unique.

For Steam and MS as it would accelerate the west's influence on gaming :

- consoles would get even closer to PC
- a more compatible ecosystem would be made between consoles and PCs
- master race would conquer the living room

the internet would melt

Sony wont go - neither will MS - Nintendo will go if they make stupid decisions.
TBH this gen no one will go

If the PS4 is not a big success ... Sony will go.

Microsoft has lots of money, Nintendo too. Both companies could easily cope with a bad selling hardware.

But Sony is in a big financial crisis since years, was even forced to sell its headquarter building in Tokyo and fired thousand of employes. The Vita is a flop, if the PS4 is not a big hit it is a chance that not the whole company will say good bye but the Playstation division will surely closed.

Mhm yeah, I still remember your prediction that Sony will be bankrupt within 2 years, from like half a year ago. I am going to call you out on it when the time comes, to show you how wrong you are

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

I always buy Sony consoles but only really get 3rd party software so (for me) it wouldn't exactly be devastating.
