Forums - Sony Discussion - Killzone: Shadow Fall single player to run OVER 30fps.

According to some Twitter responses from Steven ter Heide of Guerrilla Games, Killzone: Shadow Fall's single-player framerate has been unlocked from 30fps and will now run higher. This is obviously great news for those of us who were a bit disappointed that the game's campaign originally only ran at 30fps or lower. Other information shared by him says the campaign is "well over 10 hours" in length. Pretty much par for an FPS game these days that isn't also trying to be an RPG. As with other FPS multiplayer games, when you die you can choose a preset kit or create your own. Finally, as per a recent interview, Shadow Fall's button configuration is mostly locked.

It's not better... If it's not locked at an other fixed frame rate.

Unlocked frame rate usually comes with screen tearing or noticeable slow downs. I'd prefer a frame rate locked at 30fps, over one that fluctuates between 30 and 45 all the time. Because that's something my eyes pick on easily.

Of course, if it could be locked at 60, that would be much better.

Good it's over 10 hours long. FPS this gen were usually in the sub 10 hour ballpark. Still considering it's more open nature, it may not feel too long at all.

As for the framerate, if it's way more than 30 constantly, like 50fps or higher big majority of time, then that's cool, if it will be fluctuating from 30 to 60 all the time then I would rather like them to lock it at a solid 30fps and leave it at that. On the other hand God of War games had heavily fluctuating framerate, rarely hitting 60fps for a longer time and it didn't bother me at all, so maybe it won't be so bad.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

This has been reported previously but regardless, as stated above I'm also more concerned with the stability of the frame rate rather than actual fps (within reason).

I'm going to trust that these guys saw the difference between keeping it locked at 30fps or unlocking it, saw how it looked, and thought it was good.

Frame rate range is 35-40 FPS. Not a wide one. Everything will be OK

@Raven722 about the V-Sync...

if you have a game locked at any framerate you didn't need v-sync because your game won't show a lot of screen tearing... but when you have a variable framerate you start to get a lot of screen tearing that is really bad. So the V-Sync create duplicated frames to fit the HDTV screen refresh hate... so when the game is running at 45fps the V-Sync duplicate 15frame to get 60fps to show in your TV.

When you do that the incidence of screen tearing is decreased to close to some cases close to 0%.

Variable framerate without V-Sync = BAD
Variable framerate with V-Sync = GOOD

nVidia is showing a new tech called G-Sync with the goal to compete remove screen tearing in any variable framerate.

PS. Yeah... you beat me.

nooooo lock 60 fps no matter what or no buy. come on this is next gen lol

why not just lock it at 30fps instead of letting it jump around when ever it feels like it?

With V-Sync you can use variable... I prefer anything over 30fps instead locked at 30fps... of course the best is 60fps locked

Impressive.
