Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why does Microsoft and Sony get a free pass?

Dunno about the X1 but the Day 1 update on the PS4 adds a lot of stuff. And I'm sure it won't take, what was it, 1 hour to do the update on the WiiU?

You might want to take a look at this if you're wondering;

Gameranx: "Sony's President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida confirmed on Twitter that you can play your PlayStaion 4 without ever connecting to the internet. Thus, the Day One update is not required for the console to function."

lol... oh come on.

Come on what?

Look.  This day one download thing isnt an issue, it really isnt.

But to say that a consumer would be happy with a PS4 that didnt get the day one update is just not honest of you.  Its gimped... unbelievably gimped without the update.  Without the update you have no blu ray play back, no online play, etc etc?  Hell, some of the already featured stuff wont be there even AFTER the update.

The update is required.

I haven't said anything about being happy with your PS4 without the update. It's a simple fact that the console will function without the update and thus the WiiU situation can not be compared to this one at all.

Even if having the update was mandatory, this is Sony and Microsoft we're talking about here and they are nothing like Nintendo where people were downloading for hours and hours.

The Wiiu could play WiiU games without the update so it is comparable.

What's not comparable is that Sony are supposed to be better at this than Nintendo yet are making the same mistake Nintendo did.  (Using Day 1 adopters as online infrastructure Beta testers)

Also there is a thread around here where someone took over a day to download The Last of Us.  The two hour update for the WiiU seems paltry in comparison.

So OP makes a false statement and immediatly gets called out on the false statement... how much do you wanna bet somewhere down the line the OP will make a very similar statement

What the fuck? Why compare a 26gb file size to a much smaller one with variables such as internet speed not being factored in. My head hurt from this post

The Last could be purchased via retail and thus people had a choice. Furthermore keep your comments relevant to the topic.

2 hours huh? Have you missed out on Iwata's apology because the update was taking so long for most people. Read here if you've forgotten;

I can say the same to you, so there is no need to go there.  I am merely pointing out your double standards and correcting your spread of misinformation.

My install went smoothly I don't deny that, nobody would have had a problem if it had beeen in the console to begin with though surely even you can agree to that.  All three updates should be in the console, none of them should be taking the loyalty of day 1 adopters for granted.  Even the best infrastructure can heamorage.  Why take the risk?

Wait until actual launch day. Wii U had an atrocious launch day. If the PS4/XONE end up having troubles with their day one patches and no one complains then you might be on to something

A warrior keeps death on the mind from the moment of their first breath to the moment of their last.

Well we have one here, so no they didn't get a free pass

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Where are all the negative threads about the DAY ONE updates for the PS4 and XBOX ONE?

Remember when Wii U had one it was deemed to be unacceptable practice by Nintendo by a lot of users on these forums.

Just saying..

PS4 has a 300MB firmware update, how many GBs was the wiiu update?

Sigh.  You recognize the idea of variables affecting Sony but not Nintendo.  Evidence that the op was on to something.

My head hurts from blatant hypocrisy.
