4- For good reason - the Wii sold fastest to casuals and not gamers. And that is why third party games sold poorly on it. It was a fad that did not last as long as the generation.

Incorrect.

The Wii lasted 6 years. That is a normal, healthy console lifespan. A fad would have been two or three years.

The Wii's success lasted hyped success lasted four years (2006-2010). Once the Kinect came out the casual hype moved over to MS for two years (2010-2012).

LOL, so the  16 million Wiis sold since 2010 magically don't count?

What the hell are you talking about? 2010 was the last year the Wii recorded a profit, of course that wouldn't be what I am talking about.

no 2010 was the last time Nintendo recorded a profit, Wii was still profitable at the time, it was other products that caused them to take a loss

Sorry, but no matter how you twist it, Wii's lifespan did NOT end in 2010. It lasted six years; that is a normal console lifespan.

Also, Wii has always been profitable, since day 1. It was never sold at a loss.

This.  Thank you, Zorg.

He seems to struggle with this subject.  I believe he once stated that 2010 was the year that the PS3 had finally wiped out all of the losses it had incurred for Sony when in reality it was the year that the hardware was no longer selling at a loss.  Big difference.

Well Wii sales were already declining well before Kinect released, it peaked in 2008 at around 25m, 2009-21m, 2010-17m, 2011-11m. I believe Kinect was a factor but u make it seem like it was the sole reason Wii sales started to decline. Wii shared a very similar sales curve to Nintendos 2 previous consoles, N64/GC/Wii all peaked in the second full year on market then gradually declined for a few years.

Also im not sure what Nintendo profits have to do with anything. They posted a loss because of weak 3DS sales and early price cut, not because Kinect stole Wiis market.

Thats all plausible information as to why it happened, but competition at some point plays into why sales slow down. The Wii was the most affordable console of them all, so for the sales to slow down on the Wii even below the competition makes no sense to me. I say competition (mainly in the west) with rival tech caused the casual draw to move away.

competition is of course a factor but there were also many other things at play

Once again, no argument there. I'm not majorly in argument with you. I just believe the major issue was as demand was going down for the Wii the casual attention was drawn away from the Kinect. Many factors including lack of software might have played into that, but really....how many casuals pay attention everytime a new piece of Nintendo software comes out? Not many. It has to be highly commercialized. Last highly commercialized piece of tech in 2010 and 2011 was the Kinect. Thats my only point. ;)
