Forums - Gaming Discussion - What happens when MS inevitably drops Kinect?

they still support the first kinect, why would they drop the second. its a long term strategy for them, it isnt going anywhere. its only going to be expanded. kinect 1 sells well, why wouldn't an even better integrated, higher quality one fail?

given how MS has handled the past year or so what's another PR disaster? Just label it as listening to your fans again and they'll get praise for initially terrible strategies when they change them.

Well if you put it that way. lol!

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

I can't imagine Microsoft will ever drop the Kinect from X1. It's an essential part of the company's marketing and game development strategy.

On a personal note, I hope they never do drop it. I like having consoles with different identities and I'm looking forward to what Microsoft game studios can accomplish with this new technology.

Off topic: Define "significantly weaker" than the PS4, because most people within the biz are saying they are practically identical.

More powerful GPU, RAM, CPU, and more Shaders.... I'd say that is prety significant!

Except 2 of those 4 are the same thing (shaders are part of the gpu), 1 is wrong (Xbox One cpu stronger), and the GPU/RAM are partly offset by other elements of Xbox One's architecture.

There is a difference, mostly the GPU, but it is far from significant (a very subjective term).

The price drops? lol. My guess is MS would only drop it $100 to extend their profits. They said it costs about as much as the system itself. Depending on how late in the game they might add $50 to that to below the cost of the PS4.

I honestly don't see them getting rid of the Kinect, and I expect them to keep in line with sales with the PS4. Come back to me again in two years to see If I'm right/wrong.

It's just that simple.

A. He said almost.

B. Nameless redditors claiming to be devs is not the same as Microsoft.

C. Even if he is a dev, game developers generally don't know all the intricacies and prices of hardware manufacturing.

If you honestly think the XB1 hardware is $150 cheaper to manufacture than the PS4, you're insane.

Dropping Kinect from the system as a bundle will sell more consoles.

I think if one price drop playstation 4 will also drop

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
