Forums - Microsoft Discussion - So, Xbox One Will Mostly Be a 720p-900p System

CBOAT post: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=87247624&postcount=655

Translation: "ESRAM is the handicap probably for now, but a workaround will come. Hardware power of Xbox One is always behind PS4, though and never changes without a complete hardware update [which will of course be impossible without breaking compatibility]. 720p-900p will be the norm. Games will be good though (and that's what matters) they will just struggle more to work on Xbox One."

Not really surprising given the hardware differnces*, but there you have it from a credible source. Seems Microsoft was a bit too frugal when designing the system (weak GPU, cheap RAM). While that doesn't mean the games won't be good or fun, they won't be on par with their PS4 counterparts on a technical level.

*
Xbone: 1.18 TF GPU (12 CUs) for games
Xbone: 768 Shaders
Xbone: 48 Texture units
Xbone: 16 ROPS
Xbone: 2 ACE/ 16 queues

PS4: 1.84TF GPU ( 18 CUs) for games + 56%
PS4: 1152 Shaders +50%
PS4: 72 Texture units +50%
PS4: 32 ROPS + 100%
PS4: 8 ACE/64 queues +300%

Of course none of this is new and it shouldn't come as a shock except to those firmly shielded from reality by a that thing that sounds like a river in Egypt. ;)

The difference between the Xbox One and Playstation 4 is going to be insignificant. - It's certainly not going to be the downright stupidly massive difference between the Playstation 4 and a PC, that's for sure.

Not the biggest selling point, but it's certainly not a downside for PS4. Nice. :)

It still early, as developers learn how to program good stuff using the hardware for a few years it will get much better im sure, it always has.

Lol. This guy is their saviour.

River in Egypt? The differnce will be that more games will run at a 1080p resolution on PS4, or with more/better effects.

Don't worry though COD on current gen ran at 880*720 so it is still getting a resolution boost at 720p :)

I agree with that, and i can't wait to see what second generation PS4 games will look like!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

CBOAT is kind of a joke. All of his last "insights" turned out to be completely wrong. It's pretty hilarious that NeoGaf still puts so much stock in what he says. If his recent trend of "accuracy" continues, then this is pretty much a confirmation that 1080p will be the norm once the second wave of games start rolling out.

That being said, if Ryse is anything to go by....900p is more than fine by me. Not only does it look absolutely stunning, but the pixel counters can't even tell it's not 1080p. If Crytek hadn't admitted it, I bet nobody would have ever even noticed. Case and point being, as long as the results are visually impressive nobody will care if there's a few more or less pixels on screen.

1080p would be great to have (I think?) but I'm fine with a lower Resolution.
