Forums - Gaming Discussion - Buying COD: Ghosts over BF 4 Only because of local multiplayer

I think devs have stopped doing splitscreen multiplayer is because how much they're trying to push graphics in video games. With single player, you have one session of the game running. With splitscreen multiplayer you have two sessions of the game running. While it's using the same textures etc, they still have to produce two different images on screen at once.

I will be getting both for the ps4, I havent decided which first. Both are appealing to me depending on mood. I am also one of 10 people in the world that will play all the way through single player on COD.

This. Also in Battlefields case, Dice used to be a PC-centric developer not too long ago so I don't think they see local split-screen the same way other developers do, idk just my guess.

I can't get into CoD. Not sure why, I just don't have fun with it. I am a huge Battlefield fan all the way back since 1942. Picked up Battlefield 3 at midnight opening day and thought it was TERRIBLE. Tried to like it I just couldn't. I was so letdown I am not going to buy 4 until after I try it and if it ends up being good. 2, 2142, and BC2 are all way better games than 3. I am getting Killzone Shadow Fall Day 1 instead.

I'm buying neither. Killzone all the way, baby!

I could have bought Battlefield, but BF3 was just too bad in my eyes. Also I don't like that Premium Bullshit at all. I bought BF3 at launch and then some time later, they told me I should please spend another 50 € just for some maps and stuff. Today you can buy the premium edition for 35 € while premium alone as an add-on still costs 50 €. Screw dat. I'm only buying Battlefield again if it has Bad Company in its name. Or maybe, just maybe, I'll give Battlefield 4 a chance when the premium edition is available for 30 €. Oh, and by the way, BF3 had the worst Single Player campaign I have ever played. I'm not kidding, it sucks BAD.

As for Calladooty, couldn't care less. I stopped playing those games after part 2. It just didn't turn me on anymore, it felt like medal of honor with another name. But I'm pretty tired of that. Really, I hope Gen 8 won't be another Gen of shooters.

Hell yeah fully customizable and elected Warzones baby!  Play, Create, Murder should be the slogan.  Seriously I'm pumped after that Gamescom trailer.

OT: Why the hell don't more devs do local splitscreen online?  I mean is it some technical hurdle?  Are they just pushed to make people buy more systems by not being able to play with friends on the same one?  I don't get how Halo, Borderlands, COD, and Resistance 2 can be the only ones who can accomplish this it seems.  Just let me connect my friend's PSN through the second controller and BAM!  My roommates could play Killzone with me on launch day.

It's pretty annoying. It shouldn't be a real problem after you have gotten local multiplayer to work. I hosted an event where we had 3 ps3's and 3 screens and were 8 people... And getting to ALL be able to play together was a small nightmare :P ended up with about 2 games we could play.

Even though DICE is a pc centric developer, I'm sure that some of the developers on the team must enjoy couch gaming. The local multiplayer is, in my opinion, one of the biggest advantages over PC games.

@Kupomogli
While you have two sessions running and it may cause problems in case of asset streaming, it shouldn't be THAT big of a hurdle to overcome. Especially as you quickly free up resources when you lower the resolutions and effects. You could also use a lower LOD to simplify the assets that are streamed.

Check out my game about moles ^

I'll probably get Ghosts at launch and get BF4 during GameStops black Friday sale.
