Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Historical Shipment Data (1983 - Present) (stolen from gaf)

Around the Network

Damn the N64 wasn't doing too bad in NA and Europe/other compared to the snes, it just flop in Japan

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Well it shipped 770,000 in its 1/2 FY on the market.

Actually, they discuss this in the thread linked to in the OP. The creator of the thread on Neogaf (who called Nintendo and got all the data, so he seems very trustworthy) said

""

Internally, the Virtual Boy was a failure that Nintendo doesn't like to recognize. As a result, they didn't give me any information it.

However, I do have some data on the console.

That "770,000 shipments" figure you often see thrown around is wildly inaccurate. It's another example of that esoteric, vague data I was talking about.

I have some figures that I believe are much more accurate to the truth. However, these didn't come directly from Nintendo Co. Ltd.,'s internal archives, so I can't guarantee their accuracy.

VIRTUAL BOY

Lifetime worldwide shipments: 1.26 million

Shipments (Japan) - 0.63 million
Shipments (The Americas) - 0.56 million
Shipments (Other) - 0.07 million

Here is the sell-through information I have on Virtual Boy:

Japanese Sales, Lifetime: 630,000
USA Sales, Lifetime: 496,000

I can vouch that the 496K is the actual number NPD has in its archives for Virtual Boy LTD sales.

""

Edit: This might seem a bit rude, so I'll point out that's in no way my intention. Up until reading that thread, I completely bought the 770k figure as well.

Not at all, thanks for the information, seems it did better than I thought.

So Japan sold through all their shipments and 1 of those unsold 64K from the Americas was what I got off eBay

Whats the 'others' data he has? I thought JAP/NA were the only markets to get it?

Man, Gamecubes sales were just pathetic WW. And Wii U seems to want to emulate it. Why, Nintendo? Why?

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

lol I thought wii u it was ahead of Gamecube's first months. Even in NA, the best territory of Nintendo...

Yup thanks to Playstation stealing Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.

Also NES to SNES was pretty similar in Europe and Japan, it was just NA that dropped due to Genesis stealing part of the market

I haven't the faintest idea. The only plausible explanations I can come up with is that some american retailers were allowed to attempt to sell unsold systems in Europe, after it was evident that they weren't going to in Americas.

That's not an extremely likely explanation, but I can't come up with anything else that seems more likely.

tagged... great info

Gamecube had SSBM. That's a huge difference.
