Forums - Gaming Discussion - Xbox One Dev: ‘We Have Just As Many Pre-order Numbers As PS4, Details Snapping Feature

A million and maybe more? Yep.

Remember how Sony boasted about having excellent pre-order numbers for the PlayStation 4, boasting roughly 1 million pre-orders before launch? Till now, we haven’t learnt too much about how the pre-order numbers for the Xbox One are looking…until an Xbox One developer talked about the same recently on Reddit.

As per this reply, the dev stated, “When I saw reports of Sony having a million or 1.5 million pre-orders for the PS4, I didn’t even think twice about it. We’re not disclosing pre-order numbers at the moment for accounting reasons but I know for a fact we have just as many. Don’t be bogged by published statistics. At the end of all this, what matters is the games you want to play.

“Which games will people go back to over and over. Go with that. Look at the list of exclusive launch titles for each console. I’m quite curious how Microsoft will put consoles on shelves at launch day given that almost every console we made and will make until launch are accounted for.”

The developer also talked about the Xbox One’s Snap Mode, and how it will work. “Snapping can be done in two ways. One is via the controller by selecting the ‘Snap an app’ button on the Home screen. This will show a list of apps that are snap capable. The other is via voice commands. ‘Xbox, snap X.’

“The majority of the apps that come at launch can be snapped, though not all. Some apps are by design only to run in snapped mode. As more apps will be developed in the future by third parties, they can choose whether an app can be snapped based on what kind of experience the app will provide. Game titles do not have the option be to snap enabled (shrunken to 1/4 size) even if the developer wants to.

“What MajorNelson confirmed is that once you have an app snapped, it will by default have focus. You can then press the center button twice to switch focus back to your original app/game. E.g You are playing a game. You say ‘Xbox snap Internet Explorer.’ Your controller is now controlling the browser and not the game. Tap the center button twice to switch back to the game.”

The Xbox One will be launching on November 22nd across 13 territories. Are you excited about it? Let us know in the comments below.

Second thread incoming!

Professional analysis on this, anyone?

How come a dev know about pre order numbers? Recently all game devs have been taking sides of their console makers. My reaction to this news is this.

Professional analysis? What a bunch a of shit. This guy has had numerous times to address this and nothing supports the claim. Now, if they are over a million it definitly wasnt when this guy said it was.

"When I saw reports of Sony having a million or 1.5 million pre-orders for the PS4, I didn’t even think twice about it. Quickly evades the topic and moves it on to games, seems believable. I wonder what his definition of "just as many" is.

What does accounting reasons mean?

Maybe they want to avoid paying taxes? lol i have no idea what he means by it. It could be just a "PR reason" though.

I am as skeptical towards this as I am that PS3 has sold 80mil to retailers: Until we get information directly from MS or Sony on any matter, these stories doesn´t hold much weight.

Sorry, but no. Im calling bullshit.

I'm going to call BS on this for a number of reasons. First, the fact that Microsoft has not officially announced any milestones yet. They would not have missed an opportunity to tell people that they too have well over 1 million pre-orders. It would have taken the edge off of Sony's perceived momentum. If it were true that these consoles were even I can't imagine MS staying quiet on it and letting a faceless Reddit user be the one to break the great news.

Second, both the pre-order numbers on VGChartz (accuracy debatable) and the "Best Sellers of 2013" archive on every Amazon website from North America to Europe show the PlayStation 4 as ahead so far this year and in some nations it is well ahead. So the two websites we can go to for any kind of sales numbers are showing the PlayStation 4 in the lead no matter which site we go to.

As for the rest, we know that the PS4 is selling out in countries while the Xbox One remains available. France and Germany are completely sold out of the PS4 for 2013 and Japan has gone through at least two waves of pre-orders and sold out lightning fast while not even having an X1 release date yet. Polls across the internet (barring fan sites) have consistently shown much higher support for the PS4 even though the image of the X1 has improved. Every piece of information we have available to us right now says that this one Reddit user is wrong.

I have no doubt that the X1 will successfully sell this year but to say with a straight face that it will match the PS4, with all things considered up to this point, really sounds more like PR than truth.

Microsoft should stop talking about Sony in all of their PR...It always sounds bullshit, and they have a great product in itself, so no need of this stupid comparisons. If you have something good about Xbox One say it, if not, be quiet and don't involve others.
