Why?  In a 7970 GHz Toxic review (Card runs at 1200/1600 with 6GB of VRAM) they tried running 3x6GB super cards that are around as strong as a stock 780.  Even going into tripple 1440p they couldn't get any game to use over 4GB of RAM.

I am not saying VRAM usage will not go up, because it definately will.  But 8GB will still be overkill for another 2 years, so 12GB is really just Dick measuring at this point isn't it?

The issue here is the bus... 320bits give you 3GB, 6GB or 12GB... 8GB is kind weird unless nVidia change the bus to 256bits or 512bits.

And remeber... most games have 3GB VRAM recomended... Battlefield 4 is craching in 1440p on 3GB cards... I can see it using over 5GB for 4k.

Battlefield 4 @ 4800x2560 4xMSAA = 5.1GB VRAM

Next-gen

Yeah but that is still quite a bit higher than 4K and it still can't use 6GB!   Also the 660 Ti uses 2GB on 192 so...

P.S.  Even so that is still a sh!t ton of VRAM usage!  Have fun on 2GB 680 owners!

Always great to hear new graphics card coming out. That means that all cards out now will drop in price to the one cheaper price model.

192 / 32 = 6

6 x GDDR5 2Gbit =  1536MB

Weird they are using four slots with 256MB and 2 slots with 2x 256MB = 2048MB... the two slots with 2x 256MB are slow than the four with one slot with 256MB.

The best way in memory performance is the GTX 660 TI with 3GB.

More weird is that the PCB have 8 slots for memory but nVidia uses only 6 slots... the PCB have a 256bits bus but nVidia choose to use a 192bits one.

PS. I made a mistake the GK110 bus is 384bits and not 320bits lol

Wait what are you saying?  I was just pointing out the 660 Ti to illustrate that 2GB does happen on 192bit buses.  I don't think that is good.  I am very well aware that the 660 Ti has performance issues when more than 1.5GB is used...

I was just poing nVidia did a weird and incomum choice here... better was to stay with 1.5GB or go with 3GB... even better they use the 256bits of the PCB with 2GB.

I think they intentionally capped the bandwidth (even so the chip and PCB supports 256bits) to not canibalize the GTX 670.

Weird.

Oh yeah that's exactly what they did!  It's funny because in some games it meets or beats a 7950, but if you turn AA on it then loses to a 7870!  In practice it is barely any stronger than the 660...

If true, that will mean

GTX Titan:

Stream Processors_ 2688   Texture Units_ 224   ROPs_ 48   Clocks_ 837/876 MHz

GTX 780Ti:

Stream Processors_ 2496   Texture Units_ 208   ROPs_ 48   Clocks_ 902/954 MHz

GTX 780:

Stream Processors_ 2304   Texture Units_ 192   ROPs_ 48   Clocks_ 863/900 MHz

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Potential spec leak:

REALLY?!   So what it will be 3% stronger than the 780?!

Well. If it was 10% they wouldn't have called it a Geforce 780 with a couple of letters tacked on the end. :P

The main thing most people would want to know is, how well does it overclock? Gains should be larger increases thanks to more functional hardware units.

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment.
Quad R9 290X? Or pick up a 4th Radeon 7970? Or ditch AMD and jump onto the Geforce 780 Gravy train? #firstworldproblems

Quad SLI. :O

Help me understand the need!

CGI we may need to have an intervention here. You have 2xTitans. You have PLENTY of power!
