Non issue.

This is actually a good thing, if its true that it warns you.

It is, so long as it isnt something that happens a lot.  But this is extremely unlikely as I doubt people will place their consoles in a small perspex box with zero air circulation (almost a thermos flask).

Nice to see sensible responses in a thread of this nature.  Shoe on the other foot?  doubt it would be so civil.

do you know if microsoft have a similiar thing for the X1? doubt it would ever need it seeing how big it is and how much they focused on ventilation but just got curious

According to this the console did not overheat in the glass box. It was in standby mode

Every system has a rocky start, I expect this to be no different.

HAving said that, I'm unsure if this is what will cause the problems though. It seems like a good idea to alert people instead of outright destroying the system. We will have to wait and see for launch I guess.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I'm going to encase mine in carbonite and see what happens.

Yes X1 does have it, I read a thread about it a couple of months ago here on VGChartz. I figured PS4 might have it also given it's, on paper, more vulnerable to heating issues.

With that said, this system could be a pain in the ass if it shuts down the consoles frequently.

agreed, it would be a real pain if it keeps doing so, specially on the hot days of the summer, however i doubt it will, considering that after just 2 seconds after they opened the container the PS4 went back to working perfectly right away. good to hear MS is doing the same thing.

I don't care what console it is, you don't put those things in a case with so little ventilation. That's stupid. That being said, it's good to know that the system prevents itself from melting down. If I'm not mistaken it was reported that the Xbox One does the same thing, right?

Well Xbone needs to do that... if not then it is a new RROD.

I highly doubt the X1 will ever overheat simply for the reason that the case is huge with plenty of space for air which in turn should lead to it having a hefty cooling system(heatsink+fan). Also the PSU is external so another major hot potatoe removed from the unit!
