Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Overheating & The Red Line Of Warning

Looks like an isolated issue. Could just imagine the parodies and etc. if it was a widespread issue at retail that actually killed the console like RROD and YLOD did....

Wonderful irony, I have just been informed that the console strip light is only capable of displaying in varying intensities of blue, from unlit to bright white.
There is physically no way for it to display red.

Take that news however you want.

Quoting self for awareness.

Apparently, no one noticed your post(s).

But from the thread this come from, the poster is very pleased with the console and the time he spend with it. There's even someone who asks him if the light bar changes color and he replies that no, that only turns red if the temps rises too much, and I asume he knows that because the Sony workers said that when opening the stand.

Btw, who told you that it can't change color, only brightness?

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Put any electronic device in an enclosed plastic case with little to no airflow and it'll most likely overheat. At least the PS4 shut itself off and warned them via the Red Line of Warning (RLoW).

I'm coining that term/acronym here now BTW.

So is there a reason its called 'of death' in the title? Dramas sake?

Nope. Which is why I dubbed it the RLoW, Red Light of Warning. Seems more appropriate.

I'm sure that the 2014 die shrink will solve that in a heartbeat

Um, hasn't this been called fake now?

Well if you like to put your ps4 in a box with no ventilation then you have a problem.

Well they havent clarified what is fake.

The original news article stated "red line of death"... well that itself would be untrue... because the machine was telling the person it was overheating and they according to the same report, opened a container, pressed a button, the colour changed and the machine continued playing. So though Yosp hasnt specified, is that article's headline (which is what they tweeted to him) fake... I would say that was accurate.

That doesnt mean the unit didnt overheat though, especially considering its conditions.

As for other part of the article stating "machines booting/crashing"... at the EG Expo, I saw a number of machines crash (on different platforms).. this is normal in a dev sitation.

Making an indie game : Dead of Day!

Well at least it warned you and gave you the chance to turn it off before causing damage.

Going to wait out buying next gen, haven't had a good experience with non-Nintendo first gen consoles.

This...is being spun as a disaster? This sounds like a truly wonderful leap of engineering. They learned from the YLoD and the RRoD, so they basically made it so that such a thing will never happen by installing a failsafe so that you know it's coming before it comes so you can take preventative measures.

This should be something to praise!
