Forums - General Discussion - 46% of Americans believe in Creationism

as long as science is not able to proof how genetic codes(even the simplest are extremly complicated) were able to organise themselves,to combine zillions of atoms to create one single working cell, analyse the world and themselve ,modyfie themselve, evolve(and why?)
As long as they can't find the driving force behind all that, there is no real need to change the opinion as people are more interessted in the why? than in mechanics and details .

(Willhelm Reich was one of those scientiest who tried to prove some things with his Orgon-Energy-Stuff,but his books were burned in the 50ies and 60ies and he was imprisoned and work on Orgon Energy is still forbidden in the usa)

In this poll are only options with a god involved. This is a bit silly ...

If someone asks you this questions and you has only choices with a god involved, most people would automatically think "if a god exists what is the most likely answer?" even if you don't believe in a god you would take one of this choices.

God played no part would translate to god playing no part because he does not exist for athiest... your point makes ne sense

If evolution was glazed over then you must not have went to college....

Well, first of all it's gone to college.

Secondly, I was referring to K-12, which you couldn't possibly know so that is my error.

And thirdly, I have a degree in computer science from the college of engineering at the university of kentucky. If you can explain to me why someone in CS should be required to take biology, I will entertain your thoughts. Otherwise it seems like you're simply looking for an excuse to attack me and failing (as usual).

Not sure why people's beliefs might bother others. Then again I don't live in America so I'm not sure how this affects those who don't believe. Are non-believers persecuted somehow?

I wonder how this graph looks for Europe.
Where I live the only religious people are immigrants. Our churches are literally empty. Only used for weddings and special occasions.

Is it Old Earth creationism or Young Earth creationism? There is a difference

Gen ed courses... my wife has a economics degree but was still required to take gen bio 1... which does involve evolution. But hey, its kentucky... thats not the best of states

I think the challenge is too often evolution via natural selection is not conveyed well to people creating misunderstandings.

It is not surprising to me that people within the field that study it daily tend to simply understand the process rather than putting in any super natural elements.

The evidence is so overwhelming and has mountains of research over the centuries in support of it. The big question is why this upsets people more than, say, gravity which to me is a much harder thing to wrap ones head around yet no one counters it with a super natural explanation.

For some reason the notion that homo sapiens sapiens (modern humans) are not "special" or separate from the rest of life is upsetting to people and challenges teachings and traditions within cultures. So, we have this battle of sorts for mind share because they feel threatened by this reality.

My hope is that people understand that understanding life and how it works benefits us greatly and clinging to old thinking such as astrology or alchemy would be as counter productive as creationism.
