VGC just said that Pokemon XY hit 5.5m over release. With the UK opening between 120 and 160K and only 400K preorders in the US, I fail to see the logic behind this figure, unless the Japanese bought 3 or 4 millions.

What do you think?

Pre order number don't translate to First Week sales! So it is possible it can hit 5 million.

Perfectly possible, Nintendo games never have super high pre orders. I'm guessing Japan bought 2.5 million units. USA 2 million and Europe 1.5 million. Simple as that. This is pokémon we're talking about.

It's perfectly possible. Too bad they fell short of beating BW if the numbers are true....

A few things:

1) UK =/= All of Europe (and that seems like a low UK number, is that up yet)
2) VGC preorder numbers are not the most accurate at times, combine this with the fact that pre-order numbers do not translate as accurately to first-day sales for Nintendo games as they do for others.
3) I would be pleasantly surprised if Japan did greater than B/W launch (I think that was 2.6m) but not shocked.

Also I'm not sure if this includes digital, I suspect this will be a big digital game for Nintendo.

I think coming this close to Black&White numbers is all the more impressive when u consider the much smaller userbase of the 3DS. Going forward I believe X/Y have a realistic chance of outselling Pokémon B/W.

Seems very high. Hopefully it's true though!
