Currently I do most of my gaming on my PC (94 steam games), followed by my Wii U and then 3DS.  I've never been much of a Sony gamer (I've beaten the important Final Fantasy's on PS1, San Andreas and FF X on PS2, and Eternal Sonata on PS3).
I only have enough money this holiday season to get one or the other and my graphics cards are getting a bit long in the tooth (i'm curently rocking two 5750's).  In certain games on max settings (Crysis 2, Metro 2033, The Witcher 2) I'm getting some frame rate drops where  I have to lower  the settings to high.  I'm thinking of getting a $300-500 dollar Nvidia card like the 770 or something along those lines.  My other option is to pick up a PS4.  The games I'm most looking forward too are The Division and Destiny and if I were to pick up a PS4  it would be mostly to play with local friends (they can't afford a good gaming rig).  One of my favorite genres is JRPG and as a PC and nintendo gamer that sometimes can be lacking, so that's another driving force as to why I may want to get a PS4.

So I ask the community what would be the better investment for me and maybe a little reason as to why I should pick one or the other.

if you like Sony's exclusives so buy a PS4, in other case upgrade your PC

Unless there's a game on ps4 you want in the near future. Get graphics card. If you're waiting like me for games a year or two down the line. It doesn't make sense to get ps4 when historically launch consoles have more hardware issues, and a dry spell. The graphics card you'd see full benefit right away.

However, if killzone strikes your fancy and then get that. Even then though it's not that big of a difference. Since most games will be on both. And it just depends what your overall specs are as to which looks better. With 770 Unless the ports are terrible, or your processor is terrible it  would result in better looking multiplats, and old games would run better too.

With JRPGs PS3, or handhelds are the way to go and they're generally slow to migrate.

Like the others had said just go get the graphics card unless you have some games that you want on the PS4.

Well I've never really played any of the PS3 exclusives  so it's hard to know if I like them.   I know God of War and GT don't really interest me,  however I almost picked up a PS3 for The Last of US and Ni No Kuni, so I now I'm missing out on games I'm sure I'd like.

Well if you get a card, you might want to read a bit about AMDs mantle API, it might get out u a lot more performance out of AMD cards.

No matter how many thousand dollars you spend on PC hardware, you won't be able to play PS4 exclusives on your PC. If you don't care about those, you can just upgrade.

If I were you I would definitely get the graphics card instead because those good titles won't be coming until the second or maybe even third year for all I know and plus the PS4 isn't going anywhere ten years from now so you can just enjoy the view and not panic about the console going out of production too soon.

Destiny and The Division are releasing next year, upgrade PC now and buy PS4 later? I mean you have enough to play with, it's not like you'll get bored. On top of that I don't know of any JRPG (on PS4) releasing any time soon.

Or buy a ps3 that might be a good investment since it has years of good exclusives. It's not the sexy choice though.

Emulating ps2 on pc JRPGs is also a good choice.
