Forums - Gaming Discussion - JRPG Fans I Need Some Advice

Must-not-say-play-them--------ALL!
Yes... I have the full intentions of getting and playing them all. Out of those, I can vouch for:

RoF
Star Ocean 4 (gameplay rules, story not so bad)
Hyperdimension Neptunia (mk2 mostly)

Yet to get to the other ones. But you bet I will.

What platforms do you have? If you have a 3ds then the answer is really easy.. 3ds is the king of jrpgs this gen..
Also have you played/are you aware of the final fantasy x hd remake? It looks really sweet ,actualy much more than a typical hd remaster..I m so getting this.

The Last Story => Never played but I heard it is mixed with some great things and some annoying flaws.

Resonance of Fate => A very interesting jrpg, with innovative gameplay, but the story is somewhat confusing.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope (Is there a difference between PS3 and 360 versions?) => Minor differences between the 2, if you played the 360 version you can skip the ps3, otherwise it is a solid jrpg in many aspects.

Eternal Sonata (Difference between PS3 and 360 versions?) => Lots of improvement in the ps3 version, and I think you should play it, for an early 7th gen game it is beautiful both visually and musically, gameplay is great, and story is charming.

Pandora's Tower => Never played, but heard it is a good experience

FF XIII-2 => not yet played, if you liked 13 I think you should play its sequel.

Hyperdimension Neptunia => Seriously I think you can rid of that game.

White Knight Chronicles 2 => Better than the first one in every aspect, I recommend it if you appreciate the first.

Bue Dragon =>  don't know.

Rune Factory Frontier =>  Rune series is a particular type of jrpg, unless you love sim games, you can skip this one.

Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny => same as above.

Got every system except for a Vita and ya I plan to pre-order FF X/X-2 HD for the free artbook.

Ugh absolutely don't waste your time with Star Ocean IV

Seriously, what IS the deal with that game? Everyone I've ever talked about tell me that Star Ocean IV is trash. Even Star Ocean fans tell me that the game is just not worth it. I've never played it, but what did happen?

So basically I've realised there is no way I can play all the JRPGs I want from this gen, my backlog is just too big and its getting out of control and a large portion of the games are JRPGs that are gonna take a long time to beat.  So basically I wanted to list off the games I'm on the fence about and you guys could tell me which ones I have to play.  Btw I'm getting all the games probably soon because the gen is coming to an end and games are cheaper than they ever wil be.

The Last Story

Resonance of Fate

Star Ocean: The Last Hope (Is there a difference between PS3 and 360 versions?)

Eternal Sonata (Difference between PS3 and 360 versions?)

Pandora's Tower

FF XIII-2

Hyperdimension Neptunia

White Knight Chronicles 2

Bue Dragon

Rune Factory Frontier

Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny

If there's any that I missed that are really good let me know, if its a popular game that I missed then that probably means I already own it, thanks!

Bolded are the ones I recommend, while the scratched ones are a no-no especially Star Ocean 4 and Hyperdimension Neptunia.

Play NieR if you haven't already. It's better than the ones on the list.

Where is "Ni no kuni" in your list?

It has literally the most unlikeable cast in the hostory of JRPGs...without hyperbole !

Annoying gamers happened. It's a common problem in the industry.

@sizon: I didn't play with JP voices. I played with English voices, I prefer understanding what I hear, and I dunno how to put a sentence together in Japanese usually JP va is good though, i guess you should see a comparison on youtube or something.

Story is quite generic indeed, but I enjoyed the hell out of the gameplay. Rent it out and see.
