Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Does the Gamepad make a big difference in TW101 and Wind Waker HD?

W101 is kinda back and forth, I like both and switch it up a lot

Wind Waker is a lot more seemless with the Gamepad

Not really to be honest, I play these games even better with the Pro Controller. The stop and go feeling, meaning stopping to use to use your finger, feel more like gimmicky time waster then add experience. But off TV mode is still an awesome feature though.

Don’t follow the hype, follow the games

Here a little quote I want for those to keep memorize in your head for this coming next gen.

Wonderful 101 has some segments where you're using both screens together. For example one of them has you navigating a ship by jumping on giant buttons on the bottom screen. The top screen shows the outside of the ship. Hard to explain a bit, but it's a cool concept. Without the Gamepad, they do the same thing with picture in picture which felt awkward to me.

In Wonderful 101 you can also use touch screen controls for drawing shapes. Some people find that more comfortable, and some people like the second stick better.

For Wind Waker, I found switching items easier with the Gamepad, and I really enjoyed having my sea chart out at all times. I also used off screen play a lot, particularly for sailing before you can warp or use the swift sail.

So, personally, I think the Gamepad does make the experience a bit better. Both games are perfectly playable without it, but I'd suggest spending a bit of time with the Gamepad and seeing if it grows on you. Naturally the Pro Controller is going to be more comfortable at first because it's modeled after a 360 controller which you're more familiar with.

Play both with the gamepad.

I play TW101 with both the stick and the gamepad. So I suggest you start with the gamepad. Bring a friend over, and play mission mode with the classic/pro  controller

Well there you have it folks. The wii u gamepad is pretty worthless for trying to change gameplay in a significant way. Not even the nintendo owned games take advantage of it in a meaningful way.

The gamepad is the most amazing thing that has been introduced to the console market in a long time. I don't care if it's inovative, but the off screen play is more than enough for me.

Shit man its a tool^

A tool is only useful in the hands of one with skill. So they can use it properly. Not to its detriment.

In my hands that shit'd be useful.

DS gave birth to TWEWY. GamePad can give birth to even more depth in gameplay. As for fun uses there is so much you can do with Co-Op/Multiplayer/Online Multiplayer(With GamepadvsGamepad or say vs someone on a PC) shit the gyro's completely change FPS gameplay too.

For Single player games, just imagine what a game like The Last Story could do with it. Or a Motion+ Pandora's Tower? Or the fact that we can have more indepth strategy/puzzle/RTS's on a console.

Not to mention the wacky shit you can do with a stein's gate type visual novel or a horror game

It doesn't make it better and the battery life is terrible. Maybe when the battery comes back?

I usually plug mine in the wall no troubles there.

I said that wrong, battery pack*

For Wind Waker, it's absolutely marvellous. The gamepad greatly improves the flow of the game since you're not constantly bringing up the menu to either switch items or look at the map.

That's for the mass market to determine and not some forum dwellers around here.

Did you come here to start another flame war? You posted your opinion, he's posting his. Your word against his far as I'm concerned.

You say it's worthless, he says it's amazing.

Who decides? dun dun dun
