Forums - Gaming Discussion - Can someone explain to me what use does a smartwatch even have? Cause i cant think of one use

I actually dont even know what a smartwatch does. Can it surf the web, email, text, social network, listen to music, watch videos, play games, make calls? If not then I dont see the point since that makes up like 99% of what people do on smartphones/tablets

i mean, one advantage is you don't need pockets. so it is more convenient in that respect. i'll assume it cost less too although i haven't actually looked at prices. it could make for a better fashion statement if designed sexy enough as it would, again, not be in your pocket.

You still need the phone don't you. They are just Bluetooth extensions of the phone I thought.

really?   well that's dumb.   it's is just a perhiprial of a phone the fuck it,.. it's pretty much useless.

Cellphones in the wrist serve no purpose, but true smartwatches could have more use. By that I mean that smartwatches should be designed with the fact they are still just watches in mind.

Basically, so you can check your phone without reaching in your pocket. But you can do very little from the watch itself, you still need to pull out the phone if you want to respond to anyone

I wonder how big the screen will be. It looks like its big enough for four applications to fit on screen.
Anyway, I hope this leads to smart watches with holograms. That will be very useful. Too bad there doesn't seem to be a mass product that has holograms yet so we probably wont see such things within 5 years.

I would get one for convenience. Getting notifications/texts/emails that I can see on my wrist would be far better than feeling my pocket buzz and the have to fish my phone out just to see what it is.

It would be like a desktop PC setup. My phone on my pocket would be the PC and the watch would be the monitor

For a quick convenient check of new text messages, incoming calls (who's calling), possibly taking the call quickly (instead of missing the call due to reaching in your pockets), checking the time, things like that.

So if I were to answer the call would it be on speaker to annoy people within earshot?

Yes, maybe needing to bring your wrist to your face. That's assuming people have the decency to use it properly.

Im still confused on what it can actually do, to me it sounds like a glorified pager.
