Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo to allow cross-platform gaming

http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/359953#ixzz2hGnLcDRZ

In a surprising move, it has been confirmed that Nintendo will allow for games to be played across any platform of the developer's choosing( if of course the other platform holder allows for it). So far, it has been confirmed for Ripstone's upcoming game Pure Chess a. This title will have capabilities for Wii U 3DS,Android, and iOS users to play against each other. Ripstone is in talks to get Sony on board as well.

Here's the quote from Ripstone's Gaskell:

"We've been having similar conversations with them. They're changing their policies on the technical side a lot swifter. We're launching Pure Chess and Knytt Underground later this year, and on Pure Chess we asked whether we could do cross-platform multiplayer, expecting it to be the typical closed console platform I've been used to working with for 20 years. Within a couple of days they said, 'yep, no problem. You can have other console players playing against Wii U players. You can have smartphone players play against them. No problem.'

"We're still talking to Sony about them relaxing their policies, but we don't think they'll have any issue with it. So when we launch Pure Chess you'll be able to play against Wii U, 3DS, iOS and Android players. And when we patch PlayStation those consoles will be added into the mix as well."

Well sort of. This is surprising considering this is Nintendo and they are not always on the cutting edge of the internet. And aside from Portal 2, I can't think of any cross-platform games excluding PSV to PS3 games(since it is still on the same service)

and its M$ turn to impalement it

Oh yeah! Hopefully we can get some Sony + Nintendo multiplayer games happening. That'd be awesome!

Nintendo + Sony + PC = AWESOME!

Don't see this happening. 360 clans would be free to upgrade to either the PS4 or X1, rather than all having to stick with Xbox.

OT: This is really good. Should boost sales of Wii U multiplayer games if people aren't forced to buy them on a PC/PS3 instead.

Sony has probably been the most open out of the 3, UT3 actually allowed modding on PS3.  Portal 2 allowed crossplay between PS3/PC, but it's hard to say whether Sony allowed Nintendo/MS crossplatform since the other two were most likely unwilling.  MS on the other hand I don't think allowed either of those things to happen with 360 versions.  This is a bit surprising for Nintendo, but it would not be as surprising for Sony to follow suit.  In fact, they are kind of pushing cross platform already at least in the vein of iOS/Android/Vita/PS4 for the most part.

MS had a few cross platform games

-Shadowrun
-Universe at War: Earth Assault
-Uno

But they canned it a few years back cause nobody used it
