I fail to see how the HD 7000 series isn't astounding.  The 7970 launched almost 2 years ago and kept its rain as king the entire time.  The only thing that can beat it is the Titan for more than 3x the price.  I'm sorry but that is just a good product...  Especially considering its overclocking headroom allows me to still trade blows with a 780...

I don't have an allegiance to neither of them. For CPU, my previous PCs to current are Intel Pentium 4, AMD Athlon 64, to Intel Core i3. All have been good. My laptop is AMD (CPU and GPU).

For GPU I have only purchased 2 cards, both Nvidia (GT430 and GTX550Ti). I have not experienced any issues with drivers and my 550Ti has been great for the games I've played. I have it OC now and I will be upgrading soon.

AMD and Nvidia are both great, but if Id have to pick one today I'd go with AMD simply for price/performance ratio.

Well I've only built one rig (last year) and haven't swapped out any parts so I'm not really in a position to say which is better. My 560 ti has been a great card and I'm glad I went with it, but looking at some of the hardware comparisons it seems like AMD gives you a lot more for the price. Might go AMD when I decide to upgrade.

You mean GTX 680, no? Because the HD 7970 never beat GTX 680 in performance and like I said you pay more for better performance... so I agree the HD 7970 is a better performance/price.

Are you saying the AMD have better drivers for Linux? Because for me what AMD have can't be called drivers lol.

Well. I wouldn't say that. The 7970 Ghz edition can out-bench the GTX 680 in some instances.
Majority of the time, the GTX 680 takes the cake home in most of the benchies, but the benchmarks the GTX 680 does loose in, it's almost negligible. - But it still looses. :P

That's why the 7970's are good value, they cost less than half the price.

Both of them have driver issues like Pemalite said plus I'm pretty sure the comment Linus made was about nvidia drivers not being open source, even though amd gives pretty mediocre linux support they atleast make the drivers open source so that other users from the linux community can improve it unlike when your stuck with an issue on an nvidia driver on linux your pretty much screwed unless nvidia fixes it.
