Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which video game franchises do you consider as day one purchases?

I'm pretty much at a point where i don't really care anymore if I get a game day one or not. Until maybe 1-2 years ago i bought every game day one but i don't have this desire nowadays. Maybe because of my huge backlog, no clue.

Games I still "have to" buy day one are games i buy to play competetive online, games like Halo (it sucks if you play against people who already know the maps) and maybe games of The Elder Scrolls franchise. Everything else is pretty much a "don't care if day one or some months later" for me now. I have also no problem to wait for the PC or a next gen version of GTA V. Few years ago that would have been absolutely a day one purchase for me for PS360.

For me, it's the following:

Halo
Mass Effect
Forza
Fallout
Bioshock

I think you will buy Ryse day 1. :P

Well, it has more to do with me not owning those systems, than me being able to retain myself :D

metal gear
anything by Atlas/vanillaware

Hmm I really like Atlus's games but for some reason I rarely buy them day one. I only got SMT IV day one for the promotion. I can see myself buying P5 day one whenever that comes out.

Hmm, I expected this quote to be correcting my spelling of Atlus since I was on my phone and autocorrect was being a bitch. However, an even worse post took it's place instead. How dare you sir.

Smash Bros.

I'll honestly say that it would be pretty difficult for me not to pick up Pokemon day one.

Gran Turismo, Hot Shots Golf and Drakengard. Disgaea used to be on this list but the last releases weren't so good.

I will have to buy a PS4 next gen. :(

The legend Of Zelda, Metal gear, Mario Bros, Final Fantasy (no MMO), Xenogears (all Xenos), Star Craft, Halo, Metroid.

two days ago i get a new pc, with this: intel i7 4770k, HIS radeon 7970, ram 16 gb 1600mhz, MB gygabyte z87, so now i think i dont need a ps4 or  xbox one (this pc is for third party games).

34 years playing games.

As a series, none. Every franchise has 1 bad or even just meh game, buying every game day 1 is basically like saying we'll buy anything they make.

As games, I would buy any big and exceptionally good game, usually an RPG because they don't go down much in price. Recent examples include XenoBlade Chronicles, Pokemon Y (Mega-forms look awesome), The Last Story........Mass Effect 3, and....ugh......Fire Emblem.

Wait....I generally buy Fire Emblem games day 1, and if they don't localize I import them. Intelligent Systems is my favorite existing dev's, and so long as their games continue to look awesome, I will continue to buy their games on day 1.
