Ah yes but with all those faulty units at first, the number of actual serving units is bound to be lower.

Yet the Wii has 5 games in the top 10 for NA lifetime sales while the 360 has 1. Sales might not equal quality but Nintendo has sold more 1st party software in NA compared to MS. Fact: more people prefer Mario Kart in NA than Halo. |
Well when it comes to 1st party sales no one will ever come close to Nintendo both in home consoles but especially in handhelds Sony will never come up with anything that is nearly as popular as Pokemon.

Errr, yes for a time, it benefited from the success of the Wii, the same as Wii Fit ect.
Today? Likely a very different story.
Chris Hu obviously meant SW overall, not MS first party.

Passed Wii SW in the US last year I believe, should overtake WW in the end. |
i dont think its strange at all. IMHO the WIi had an overall crap libraby. you could only make so much dance and party games before people figure out "yeah" thants not too good.
NightDragon83 said: It may only be on the verge of passing up the Wii in total sales in the NA market now, but I assure you that the 360 passed the Wii in terms of households that actively use the console (at least a couple times a week) a long time ago. Can't tell you how many friends and relatives' homes I've been in over the last 2 years with Wiis just sitting in the corner or under their entertainment cabinets collecting dust, with a short stack of all the usual suspects in terms of software library nearby, none of which were released later than 2010. |
I am guilty of that myself. My poor little Wii, just sitting there. WiiMotes empty of batteries. And I haven't used the Balance Board but once or twice since I got Kinect.
Many Wii's are still being used - to stream Netlfix. Something like nearly half of them.
I think the last games I bought, Monster Hunter Tri and Super Mario Brother Wii have both been sold or given away.

The console that sells the most (albeit in the USA after Wii U released) in the biggest and 3rd biggest console markets ends up selling the least globally. And the console that has sold least in those 2 markets, and 2nd in the 2nd biggest console market (Japan) could end up selling the most. Though honestly I think the bottom is going to drop out of PS3 and X360 when PS4bone launch. Maybe one last hurrah this holidays, but they'll be dead and buried, more or less, by holiday 2014. So I don't see PS3 catching Wii. Best thing about this generation though is that every home console sold well, and sold plenty of software. |
I think that the current gens will lose out on sales to next gen's, unless there is something major happeneing. Like a super price reduction or something.
Microsoft is still planning on selling another 20+ million Xbox 360's. I don't know if that is going to happen. Perhapse a $149 250G + Kinect would do it.
I agree, I don't see the PS3 doing much after the PS4 comes out. Unless they make it like $99 or something. Then it would be like 'a blu-ray plus.' People now are more used to 'getting the new thing' plus this gen has been around a long time.

He is talking about NA not USA? Not having a go, just wonder what your source is? If the gap in the states is 1.8m, where is it undertracked by 1.8m? |
Going by US being so overtracked, I have no idea where it's undertracked, perhaps Europe? or even Mexico. It IS undertracked somewhere though that's for sure.
