Anyone concerned with this has no business even opening a laptop, let alone typing www.google.com into it.

It's probably meaningless that ADblocker is so popular then? In fact so popular, Google disabled it on the playstore cuz they were afraid it would affect their ad revenue negatively. Same thing with recording TV, to skip those annoying commercials.

Fact is, people don't like ads. When you have no choise, you settle. But you don't go out and buy something that's gonna give you even more ads!

Then don't buy a tv,smartphone, radio, car, tablet,pc,video game, go to a movie, go shopping, go to a sports bar.  In every one of these cases, you are paying to get ads.

You don't get it do you? When you buy a TV you don't buy a piece of the TV station which covers their cost of producing programmes for you.

Hmm, pie.

Shortsighted?  You are the one saying that people don't want more ads.  People love them, but like to complain about them.  The kinect won't make more ads, it will make smarter ones.  If there was going to be an ad in the dashboard before, it will still be there now.  Maybe the ad will be more interesting or maybe not.  If I have to consume ads everywhere I go, I would rather have them have a meaning or purpose that fits my needs.

The funny thing here is that he thinks having adverts on your console at all is okay.

It's not, it's really not.

Yeah, and you missed the part where he said that the Xbox One was not designed with advertising in mind.

The Xbox One doesn't have any dashboard advertisements.  You will have recommendations based on what you watch or play, but those will be geared toward content you already enjoy.

For example, you recently watched Signs and The Village, you may be recommended Unbreakable or The Sixth Sense.
