Forums - PC Discussion - Surface Pro 2, Surface 2 sold out

Per the techienews article :

Microsoft has announced that its latest tablets – Surface 2 & Surface Pro 2 – have completely sold out within days of its launch because of which shipment dates of new pre-orders have been pushed back.

Unlike the not-so-awesome response that the first iteration of Surface tablets garnered, Surface 2 – as Microsoft claims – has managed to attract large number of customers including enterprise clients like Delta Airlines with its 11,000 Surface 2 order.

If the sales numbers are indeed that high, it must sound alarm bells in Apple’s camps as it gears up for the launch of its iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2. Apple has been enjoying tremendous success with its tablets and has been consistently ranking top in tablet market share charts globally. However, with the barrage of low-cost tablets from Samsung and other white-box vendors, iPads have witnessed a decline in market share recently.

Microsoft is also emerging as a prospect strong player in the tablet market with its yearly refresh cycle. If Surface Pro 2 is compared with iPad 4, the former is far better a tablet considering the full Windows 8 operating system that it runs. Further with the Type cover / touch cover attachment the Surface Pro 2 is more or less equivalent to the MacBook Air. Pricing is the only factor that may stop buyers from opting for Surface tablets as it sells its Surface Pro 2 at a starting price of $1000 when other tablets are available for as low as $300.

Microsoft will be shipping out its Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 from October 21. This means that the Windows 8 maker has managed to sell out the its pre-order inventory two weeks before the tablets reach consumers. Microsoft has also revealed that new order won’t ship until October 25.

What was the total shipment size? 11.000 is a long way from being any thread to Apple.

Im pretty sure it's BS, Microsoft has been doing everything it can to hype Surface, they are most likely just creating artificial demand... or at least I hope they are, I need to grab myself a Surface 2 before I get my ass back to school.

This means nothing. Microsoft haven't a hope of penetrating the android and IOS tablets.

I'm assuming sold out in the US, because AUS has been still taking pre-orders since the reveals on the 24th.

Got a retro room? Post it here!

I preordered a surface pro for my son for school. I doubt there will be supply problems that much, but it is nice to not have to call around to see if they have the right one in stock.

We were going to get him a laptop (about $900), but i like the Surface Pro that I use at work so much, I decided to go this route for another $300.  He is an avid gamer and I wanted something that can do what he needs for school and play the games(Steam).    He has a 20 inch monitor in his room to hook it up to when at home, and they use them in the classrooms at his high school.  His class is the 1st "all digital" grade to start from 9th grade.  All of his classes post all of the homework to the web.

ARTIFICIAL HYPE!!!

unless they only shipped 20k units to na
