Forums - Gaming Discussion - Tales of Xillia NA/Europe Sales Subpar, Bad News For Future Localisations?

Well they are releasing games at the end of the generation too. Sales are in decline across the board mostly with few exceptions.

Its kind of bit unfair to put the sales numbers of the 3 together because Tales of Vesperia has 6 years of sales on that chart. Tales of Graces: F has 2 and Tales of Xillia does not even have one year under its belt.

Ya its unfair but that's just the way it is, the other 2 games had time to compile sales, but that isn't the case with Xillia with next gen right around the corner stores are gonna need to clear space for current gen games to make room and I highly doubt a game like Xillia is gonna make the cut.

Err... no, not really. These numbers are about right for Tales games in the west.

And im pretty sure that just with GTA5 and CoD and Battlefield, this year software sales will be up overall compared to last year.

You can't really use that chart because Vesperia and Graces f had plently of time to stay on store shelves and accumulate sales, but Xillia is not gonna have that benefit.  With next gen coming right around the corner stores are gonna need to clear current gen games to make room and I doubt a game like Tales of Xillia will make the cut.  Weekly sales are already at 1-2k in NA and that number is gonna plumet when next gen comes.

Lol ill trust Vgchartz over some random poster who claims he has inside sources. Try again.

Considering VGC often adjusts its numbers based off neogaf posters who claim to have inside sources, I'm not sure how well this logic holds up.

I don't think it's bad for future localizations. It took them long enough, but I think Namco Bandai realized that since the Tales games sell well enough to make them money, then there's no reason to localize the games.

Tales of Xillia's first two weeks were 110,000+. They had the one premium edition which cost $100. Anyways. Xillia made over two million for those two weeks of sales which is far more than localization and shipping costs would have been. So they're atleast making money on it.

After the first month, sales on most titles drop significantly and everyone knows that, yet Namco Bandai still registered the Tales of Zestiria trademark in the US and Europe. Maybe I'm right about my initial statement?

Does anyone know how much it costs (ballpark number) to localize a full-length JRPG? I would imagine that a JRPG that's popular enough to make it to NA/Europe probably already made most of its money back in Japan. So anything it makes in NA/Europe is just bonus.

its an old game

@turkish, the last comment u made in your post is your opinion and not fact, please remember that, ok?
about jrpg's on ps3 and not 360, the majority are on the ps3 which is true. but to say there isnt a jrpg fan base on the 360, then u are completely uniformed to say the least. examples : lost odyssey, blue dragon, infinite undiscover, star ocean the last hope, tales of vesperia, magna carta 2,final fantasy 13, final fantasy 11 online, and some more i could mention to back up my statement, that there is indeed a jrpg fan base on the 360.

He's absolutely right. The JRPG fanbase is on PS3, not 360. This statement is supported by fact. Even though some JRPGs sell copies on 360, the fanbase isn't there (as in, it's too small to matter).
