Forums - Gaming Discussion - Tales of Xillia NA/Europe Sales Subpar, Bad News For Future Localisations?

Well unless Namco Bandai comment on the sales being low, I'm going to take it that the game was successful, else they wouldn't be localising more games if that was the case.

Besides Namco make profit from the DLC and digital sales, so I don't think we can say the game was unsuccessful based on these numbers alone.

Wait, wasn't Xillia 2 already confirmed for the west? Or is it my memory tricking me?
I did my part by buying Xillia, though. Gonna play it soon =D

I've never been interested in these Tales games. Honestly, it feels like every week there is some kind of news about a new Tales games, a port, or some slightly upgraded version. There's been what, a Tales game every 6 months for the last 5 years or something? I might exaggerate a bit but I honestly don't understand how they can afford to make so many of these games. Is this series really that popular?

I'm sure the numbers are a good bit higher if digital number come into play.

Tbh I don't think digital sales will be significant, but even if they were sales in NA would need to be doubled to be around the same as Vesperia and Graces f.

Already told you - your numbers are VGChartz numbers.

Unless you can provide a link to more precise numbers this is all we have to work with.

That's LTD as of June so probably March till May.

If 63,000 in 3 months can get us ToX, then I think more than 100K in 1 month bodes well for us.

Vgchartz vs random Neogaf poster lol okay. Also i think the sales are alright I also believe when Vesperia hit the 360 in america and europe it seemed like less than AAA titles could sell better over time than they do now for some odd reason. Hey were getting Symphnia HD and Xillia 2 so im sure namco is somehwat okay with the sales.

Lol, that's a GAF mod with confirmed inside sources. Try again.

Also, in the UK, Xilia sales opened 20% higher than Graces f.

Lol ill trust Vgchartz over some random poster who claims he has inside sources. Try again.

So it looks like Xillia's sales are pretty much stable now and won't go up by much now and the numbers are not very impressive and that is putting it nicely :/.  Just to compare it to the other two Tales of games that came out this gen(all #s from VGC):

Tales of Vesperia: NA - 0.28, Europe - 0.13

Tales of Graces f: NA - 0.24, Europe - 0.09

Tales of Xillia: NA - 0.13, Europe - 0.06

I don't really understand why the sales are dropping more and more when imo the games are getting better and better.  I am especially surprised that Vesperia, which is a 360 exclusive outside of Japan, sold better than Graces f and Xillia in Europe when those are PS3 exclusives and I thought PS3 was more prevalent in Europe.

We still have Xillia 2 and Symphonia HD Collection coming out in 2014 and I'm a little worried that if the games keep selling less then they will no longer be localised, which would be terrible because I think the Tales of games as a series are the best JRPGs this gen.  So anyway what do you guys think?

This is so far from the truth.

That said, Namco really hurt their fanbase with their actions earlier on. By releasing games faster and more consistently, they should win over some people.

Extremely popular in Japan yes. It's not like the production values are as high as Final Fantasy so they can afford lower sales.

Looks fine to me:

It was. You can even pre-order it in various places. The sales are doing good. Digital is probaby bigger with games like this. They're so rare in the west and the prices never drops and you can't afford to, as there will be no copy to find by that time. So digital must be a godsend for fans of games like this.

I would say that online retail is the biggest one. Yes, it's trouble finding games like that in stores, but confirmation means that there's no real point to this thread, I think... Xillia 2 sales I bet will be smaller, being a sequel and all.

I got mine for 37 pounds... ain't bad, say I.

Slightly disappointing sales, but that comparison graph makes the situation look a lot better.

I think they were too late to start localising Tales of games. PS3 owners wanted Vesperia and they wanted it years ago, a lot of the hype for the series just seems to have fizzled out. Now they dump 4 lower quality Tales of games on us within the space of 2 years, they should expect poor sales. I don't think Ni No Kuni releasing a few months earlier helped either.
