Number 1 should be not using Discs on the N64, they lost all their third party support from that.

That's huge but not as big as inadvertantly creating the Playstation.

They could have easily beaten the PS1 if they still had Capcom, Namco, Konami, Squaresoft and Enix backing them.

Here's some of their mistakes imo:

- Not releasing a Wii HD in 2009/2010

- Not having clickable analogs on the Gamecube pad (even though it was my favourite controller. It was a typical hard-headed Nintendo thing to do. No shame in including features from other products Ninty). Small point really.

- The Wii U name. The Wii U gamepad. The Wii U specs. The Wii U software development planning. Most unappealing console since I've had money to buy whatever I can.

- Not developing Retro into a major, hard-hitting software dev. They could've rivalled the very best by now.

- Making the standard Gamecube purple. And why no black REmake bundle? It had such a successfull launch, it was clear that people actually liked the console.

- Pioneering 3D console games and then not pushing the envelope much since then.

10. no
9. somewhat.
8. why they grouping dvd playback with online? I agree about online, DVD personally don't care.
7. nothing wrong with the purple cube. Just shows most people are weak and are pressured by their peers to conform.
6. Agreed
5. no
4. no, I still prefer them and wish they switched from discs to flash memory. then my friends animals wouldn't damage them using them as a bed lol.
3. Agreed
2. No
1. LOL screwed over? this is a debate that will go on forever.

10. lol
9. Agreed, Wii is fugly
8. Eh, seems like a smart business move
7. Stupid. "lulz its purple how dumb!!"
6. Was this even a big deal back in the day? I guess for the niche arcade fighting game crowd.
5. Yes. Huge mistake for them.
4. Another huge mistake. Shifted support drastically, and was expensive as hell.
3. Worst console ever imho.
2.  Never played this, but I agree.
1. Worst mistake in the history of gaming? Maybe.

Wouldn't that have been difficult though? Obviously all Wii games would have worked on the Wii HD, but would Wii HD games work on the standard Wii? Or would developers have to release separate Wii and Wii HD versions?

But I do agree this would have been a great idea if they could make it work. The Wii was arguably outdated upon release, so an HD upgrade halfway thru it's life would have been great for keeping the momentum going.

Feels like it was made by a hoard of sony fanboy, no joke.

So like me? Please, tell me in what way... If you haven't noticed I'm kind of getting quite sick of posts like this "So like you" bla bla bla.

As for the top 10... here are the details why it's made by a or a few Sony fanboy(s):

10. 3DS. They mention a lack of a second circle pad, but again that's from a Sony fan perspective, because the vita offered it. Really, the decision to have 1 circle pad was a reasonable decision due to the very limited use of the 2nd circle pad. It's a handheld, not a home console after all.

9. Wii Shortsightedness. The only thing they can say here is that the Wii was actually HD capable, Nintendo just didn't supply the output for it. But in terms of having a weaker system, it was a business decision that actually paid off, and allowed Nintendo to profit. Far from a fail if you ask me, and a much better decision than their competitors (Sony lost their dominance over it).

8. DVD playback is really something that non-gamers wanted. It was something so foreign to console companies in the day. Yes it ended up helping broaden the market but it's far from being a Nintendo fail. It would really only be true from a Sony fan perspective.

7. Gamecube design. It scared off mature and hard-core gamers? How mature are they if they refused to buy the console because it was fucking purple?

6. Censorship. Look at what the proliferation of blood and violence has led to. Really, I support Nintendo in keeping a damper on it all, there seems to be no more limits nowadays.

5. Losing square support. Yes, I agree it's a failure of Nintendo.

4. N64 sticking with cartridges. Yes, that's true.

3. Virtual boy. Nobody can ever deny how much of a failure this was. It should be #1.

2. Phillips CD-i. I'm not sure exactly what this has to do with Nintendo... It's Phillips device.

1. Making the playstation. No that is incorrect. Nintendo can't be to blame for creating a market so successful so as to attract Sony into the arena. No, this is just wishful thinking on the part of a or a few Sony fan(s).

Do you not know the story of PlayStation's genesis?

Nintendo went to Sony with the desire to make a CD add on for the N64.

Sony announced the partnership.

Moments later Nintendo announced it had actually partnered with Philips.

Sony made their own system to stick it to Nintendo.

Yes, I know it very well. The truth is that Ken Kutaragi had been working on Nintendo technology for their audio chips for a long time and was poised to create a console experience that was "better". It was only a matter of time.
