People living in wealthy industrialized nations in general live in a bubble. That's what was so amusing about that "99% vs 1%" protest thing last year. Most of the world's population lives in abject poverty, and the homeless in the US have it a lot better than the homeless in the third-world.
People protesting that they are the "99%" as they hold their iPhone 4S and wear designer jeans and drive a car, have a job, and are well fed. Give me a break. Try living in Kenya or Ecuador. Not every country has public education for all citizens K-12, no-questions-asked immediate medical care even if you don't have any money, public transportation, clean air, clear water, and a Bill of Rights.
Everyone in this forum is in the 1%, and yes, the propaganda on our news and from our government is criminal, to say the least. To go on television and threaten to "shut down" the government is such a farce. We haven't even had a budget since President Obama took office in January 2009. All we've had are these thrown-together continuing-resolutions to keep things funded. So what if the government is shut down for a few weeks? All urgent matters and the government employees who take care of them will remain on the job. And the rest will go on unemployment. Their paychecks are all paid for with our income taxes anyway, so what's the difference either way?
