It's time for JRPG's to start evolving or die out like the dodo bird.

Dark souls/Demons SOuls is made in japan, best game this entire generation..................................Not too  mention Ni no kuni was excellent. JRPG's are fine. just because Square/enix  jhas their head up their butt, doesn't mean all JRPG's are dying or dead.

Dark souls and demon souls the best games this generation ? hardly

BTW ni no kuni was boring.

Gameplay and level design and atmosphere, Nothing comes close to the souls series, sorry. You saying ni no kuni was boring, is pretty much irrelevant. The game was a critical and commercial success.

For a JRPG sure it was a success compared to others but it still isn't drawing any noticeable crowd.

I would hope not. They were proof of how this industry can survive on low margins

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

We need you NIS, we need you.

I am having trouble reading your tone. Your initial comment seemed like sarcasm.

But yes, Sega owning Atlus now finally gives Atlus an established European branch. That should be good, but on the other hand you have Sega developed games like Valkyria Chronicles 3 and Yakuza 5 that don't leave Japan, hence why I don't see any guarantee that Atlus games are now a lock for Europe. Thus a scenario where Sega doesn't bring Millenium Girl to Europe and at the same time denies NISA (took over the duties for Etrian Odyssey IV) to publish the game is a possibility.

The intial post was sarcastic. I'm down on Sega at the moment, especially since it doesn't seem interested in localizing many titles (or developing very many, for that matter), but I'm unsure how it does business in Europe. It seems like Atlus was just beginning to get a good grip on American publishing, and was making inroads in Europe via partnerships. I worry that Sega will negate much of that.

Depends on if these operations are profitable. Surely Sega's in the business of buying Atlus to make more money, not less.

My understanding was that Atlus was doing pretty well for itself. The problems were exclusively in its parent company, more specifially the whole fraud thing they had going.

Wouldn't surprise me if they have financial problems. They have been making and porting the same games over and over. Their fanbase probably got tired of it; I know I did. They need to take some risks instead of doing disgaea and lolicon RPGs.

I dont see how developing games for a system with like no userbase is helpful here. Why not PS3 games? or well 3DS if it has to be portable.

Strange world huge companies avoid systems with small userbase and small companies dont?!

Are you talking about Vita?  If so, they've barely developed for that console.  1 game released so far (a port); and two more in the pipeline (2 ports).  The majority of their work releases on PS3, which I assure you doesn't have "no userbase".

And if so, it's quite simple.  A company like Nippon Ichi make niche games, that appeal to a small portion of the game-buying audience.  They budget their games accordingly, so they only need to sell 40-50k to break even.

As such, it doesn't matter if your userbase is 1 million 10 million.  So long as you have the 40-50k+ people in there to make the game profitable, that's all that matters.  The games they make rarely appeal to the general public, so sticking it on a console with a large userbase but without the niche they need would just be a terrible idea (for an example of this, see the sales of Conception 2 on Vita vs. 3DS.  Not a Nippon Ichi game, but illustrates the same point.)

Nobody posting how well their sales are to backup their argument whether NIS should/not be in financial trouble?
