Forums - Gaming Discussion - So is the 3DS using the 2008 or 2010 model of the PICA200 GPU series?

What model of the PICA200 series do you think is in the 3DS?

2008=Vertex Performence 4... 18 19.78%

2010 = Vertex Performence, the heck if I know 28 30.77%

Because they really show off the polygons & shader cores (you can use the circle pad to move the camera angle around). But so do the games I tagged to this thread for showing off the graphics.

The Mario Kart 7 puzzle seems like a fully develop Mario Kart 7 if they had had the time. I guess I shouldn't be surprise that Mario Kart 7 still looked better then Wii despite being a rush developed game for the holidays.

MK7 looked better than Wii to you? That's just not true at all...

Everything except lighting was better in MKWii than 7. Poly count in MKWii is a good deal higher than in MK7.

I was talking about the MK7 Puzzle Panal, not the rushed game for the holiday.

But 3DS games are clearly pushing more then 120 million poly, just look at Sonic Generations and the other games I have tagged on this thread when playing them on the 3DS with the 3D ON.

Plus a 2 to 4 core CPU that's 1 GHz that can't be underclock lower then 350 MHz a core can clearly compete against a 729 MHz 1-core CPU the Wii has.

I don't even think the Wii CPU can clock a GPU at 400 MHz.I know the 360 can clock a GPU at 500 MHz.

The WiiU isnt the Wii.

The 3DS is stronger than the Wii yes.

In certain aspects, yes. I don't think the 3DS has shown that it can match up to the Wii's best in terms of poly count just yet. It likely never will. I don't even think Revelations, as beautiful as it looks, beats the Wii's best. The 3DS far exceeds the Wii's lighting ability but the 3DS's weak CPU means it likely won't ever push the polys the Wii could.

The 3DS CPU clocks the 3DS GPU at 400 MHz. I don't see the Wii CPU capable of clocking a GPU at 400 MHz, maybe the Wii CPU can clock a GPU at 250 MHz but not 400 MHz.

The 3DS is better than the Wii in all areas but one

And it's not 7 years old, the tech demo floating around on youtube is from 2006, but the 3DS is clearly not going to be using that model, when there is a 2010 & 2008 model. Even the model shown from 2008 that was more than twice as powerful. 2006 version could push 15.3 million polygons per second at 200mhz (400mhz max clock).

The one shown in 2008 could push 40.7 million polygons per second at half the rate, 100mhz. Clock speed is unimportant to say the least. Not that it matters though, because i'm not too impressed with Tegra anymore after seeing what the Pica200 can potentially do and DEFINITELY what the 3DS can do.

The 2008 model seems to be 600 MHz or so max clock frequency

While the 2010 model seems to be 1 GHz max clock

But what model do you think is used in the 3DS?

(models: 2006 & 2008 & 2010 & 2012)

And what do you think about everything else I've mention in the OP?

Can you provide some URLs for the 2008, 2010 and 2012 models of the Pica200?

Why aren't they to find on the dmprof-website?

Because they only exist in Kaizar's looney world... The rest of us must be idiots, since we expect that actual manufacturer knows what he's producing.

But the PICA200 is a series. It's NOT just one GPU.

May I ask what the 1 is.

The ARM11 is said to be like 1 GHz 2 core which is better then the ARM9 268 MHz 2 core. The Vita has AMD arm vortex 9 or something like that which is confirm to be 1 GHz 4 core.

The problem with the Vita CPU is that it's AMD, so an advantage in cores & clock speed & newer model doesn't seem to be enough to do anything against a way weaker & older "intel CPU" with less cores, because the "intel" CPU will still process so much more LOL. So AMD CPUs are known as the least quality CPUs in the industry, which is probably why they are the cheapest 3rd party CPUs to use.

Ehm... don't you ever talk about ARM and the AMD and Intel ever again.. ARM is an Architecture..   just like x86 or PowerPC.. they licence the design to manufactures like Apple, Nvidia and Qualcomm.. the ARM chip in the vita is made by Samsung.. AMD and Intel have nothing to do with designing ARM and are shit scared that ARM is getting too powerfull in a few year that it can compete with their laptop CPU's (which will happen).. AMD is already at the point that they are going to make ARM cpu's for servers next year..

Thanks, I read somewhere else that it's a Sony/Toshiba collaboration CPU, and other sources say AMD.

So I guess it's a Samsung then.

Well, I think Nintendo only confirm arm-based CPU for the 3DS.

Cant I just get some straight specs that's Not Nintendo ARM9 nor PICA200 2006 model, for CPU & GPU. And get some straight specs about Vita CPU. So the Vita is not a Sony & Toshiba CPU?

LOL.

You always make my day, thanks.
