Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One will be "more than a ten-year journey" for Microsoft

Definitely a great thing for potential buyers to hear.

Just need to hope they don't try to push a "digital or bust" system going forward and remain commited to the physical side as well. That way all parties are satisfied.

Hopefully they actually support it with games during the end of it's life this time ;/

It's good news in some ways (more bang for your buck) but i also hope this generation doesn't stretch out like the 360 and PS3 did. Things just get stale when you try to stretch it out that far..

Interesting. I personally disagree about the length of the new console cycle. Neither Sony nor MS built a machine that can last the run this time. I say their successors are going to get shown for the first time in 5 years time. 6 the latest.

Considering they invested in many more studios near the end of last gen we shouldn't need to worry about them leaving the console hanging again.

Thanks to these new consoles from MS and Sony being made with mainly off the shelf PC parts evolving their consoles will be much easier. I expect it to end up like how smart phones evolutions are, only with more than 1 year between updates.

On the subject of making it last ten years I believe MS's vision of adding to the processing power of the Xbox One. If you look at where things are now what they will be adding will be things like better AI and much larger world spaces. Graphically there is a threshold but as far as AI intelligence and game depth the sky is the limit. I really don't think this gen will be so much about graphics.

Maybe but having in mind that next gen will come about 5 or 6 years in ps4's and xboxone's lifecycle

Off the shelf or not, they literally didn't build anything that can last.  The PC space has already eclipsed both of them.  It's only going to be worse in 5 years.  Especially with things heating up again between AMD and Nvidia.  5 years should be long enough for the both of them.  Plus they both should be able to have close to 100 dollar consoles by then (Well not MS anyways).

Xbox One will be supported more than ten years just like ps4. But none can beat ps2's record. Almost 15 years after release ps2 will still be getting fifa 14.

Yeah he's pretty much right^
