Forums - Sales Discussion - Global HW +SW Up! 21st September 2013 (GTA V Week) ~336k PS3 ~180K X360

Wii U software numbers seem a bit odd.  They basically seem what you would expect if nothing had changed with hardware that week.  Nintendo Land is basically flat, which on its own isn't odd.  Perhaps sales of that bundle stayed roughly the same with the Wind Waker bundle selling more beyond that.  Or maybe people buying the WW bundle bought stand alone copies of Nintendo Land.  However Rayman is down and NSMBU is flat from last week.  Without the Wonderful 101, software sales are actually down by a moderate amount for last week.  Either VGC hasn't properly taken into account Wii U sales, the new customers didn't buy any software outside of the bundled WW, or the hardware boost was negligible.

Excited to see the hardware sales. The Last of Us sold like 13k units more this week in UK alone just because of the hardware bundle sold at Game (or whatever the store is called) so PS3 sales alone should be huge in UK. And that won't be probably much different for other markets.

I mean, PS3 sold ~5k the week before and now we have only the The Last of US+GTA bundle with around 13k sales? WOAH

if you think about that sony and microsoft get like 7 bucks royalties per sold third party game they will be very happy about these gta sales...

yeah, this is massive!

GTAV on the PS3 did 7.2 million units.

7.2 million * 7 USD = 50.4 million USD.

Beyond: Two souls costs ~27 million USD to produce... impressive!

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

GTA V is crazy! I thought the UK ratio would be bigger for X360. Good to see the PS3 version hanging in there in the UK. Can't wait for HW numbers.

Or they wait for Retail-Release and grab that 299$ Nintendoland-Pack and a Retail-Copy.

I'd say it's a combination of 2 and 3. The boost probably wasn't very big and Zelda is enough for most of the new buyers for a while

Agreed, plus the cut was only in effect for two of those days, right? It's going to be a slow and steady climb back to decent sales for the Wii U over the next 7 weeks.

Ehhhhhh... not quite.  Or at least not necessarily.  Console holder's fees are not a set figure.  $7 a game is typical, but publishers can negotiate for a better price.  When you have a game like GTA V you have some leverage to negotiate with.

The sale price was only in effect for 2 days, so you're not going to see much of a change.  You might see like... I dunno, 3 or 4 thousand extra sold in an ideal scenario.  Next week should see more of a difference, but still nothing crazy.  Nintendo's marketing has so far been targeted towards hardcore gamers (I've seen that Zelda add so many time), but they haven't really delivered the message to the masses.  They need to do that to see a huge spike.  They'll soon have the software to do that (Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, Wii Sports Club), so time will tell if they can do it effectively.

at least it debut at no.9 in the US. That's good RIGHT? Glass half full you know what I mean.

Position is only good relative to the other games in the chart, which are unforuntately not that great aside from GTA.

That said, it could be a lot worse.  For a game with no advertising on a struggling platform, these sales shouldn't be a surprise; it'll only be disappointing to people who were holding out that USA would be the last bastion of hope for W101 to sell well.

It certainly is going to be a race to 100k between it & Killzone, though.

Also, wait for NPD.  VGC has been majorly wrong on things before, so hopefully we'll get some numbers from Creamsugar telling us how close they were with this & KZ.

I'll just focus on the fact that the Wii U version of Rayman Legends is the only version that's still in the charts. You made a mistake Ubisoft and your Smash Bros. spot for Rayman has been revoked.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.
