Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you think Super Mario 3D World was originally called Super Mario HD world?

We all know the title of the game made no sense due to the Wii U not supporting the same 3D tech as the 3DS..but yeah it's a sequel. Mario saves Peach in the end of 3D land..Luigi can be played afterwards too..and Toad is always everywhere. So in 3D World..all of them come together to do something..

SPOILER ALERT: It might be something against Bowser...not entirely sure..it's always unpredictable [/sarcasm]

Anyways, Youtube doesn't exactly show top quality from videogames..

But if you can discern youtube's garbage from the actual gameplay videos..the game is beautiful.

Everything looks like it was applied with HEAVY Anti-Aliasing...the textures are GORGEOUS. The clipping sucks..but hey..not always 100% noticable.

Since Super Mario 3D land featured a lot of 3D aspects using the 3DS software....what will Super Mario 3D World feature? It's simple. The HD and AA..plus cats.

So I believe the game was meant to show Mario's debut in HD. Super Mario HD World would've been the BEST title..but HD isn't new. People would think it's just a remaster in HD..right?

So the odd choice of Super Mario 3D World was chosen..maybe there will be some 3DS functionality..

Anyways, yeah the game looks like a step backwards from Galaxy..but the creators even said that even though it's different..we'll still have the fun.

I think the game will get a 4.5/5 rating from most review sites.

So..do you think that the title "HD World" was ever in mind when creating the game?

Great game on the 3ds btw, I played it the most when I had mine.

Im not sure about the HD part with it being on the 3ds first.

3D is referring to the graphics, not just stereo 3D.

I think it's called 3D world because it's the same series as 3D land...

The name came from 3d land... But yeah there is no good reason for the same use for the Wii U edition.
"HD" does not sound good... They could name it "New Super Mario Land", " Super Mario 3D Land 2" or another random name eg "New Super Mario World", "Super Mario Country" ....

No, the name is given after the game is made, so definitely not. But, you know, it seems to be a by-game, and surely not a game who can stay in memories for long, such as SM64, SMS, or SMG and SMG2
