Forums - Sales Discussion - HW UP! Global SW UP! 14th September 2013

like someone else already said, something like puppeteer should be a psn game. they could sell it for a lower price and still make the same money per sold unit or maybe little bit less but it would have potential as download only game.

i think it could be a success if it would be a 15 or even 20 dollar game (and 10 after half an year or so) and since the whole 15 dollar would go in sony's pocket it wouldn't be too bad.

i'm just not sure how games which release now for psn or xbox live will sell in the long run with the next gen arriving. something like castle crasher sold over years pretty well but that could be different with games releasing now for ps3 or 360.

Puppeteer... :(

I worry might see 2D plat formers (outside of Mario) only be viable as $15-20 download versions.

thats been the case the entire gen. I honestly wonder how much of these games have to do these kinds of numbers before people understand this is not a genre that is going to thrive on the 50-60 dollar shelves. Unless your name is Mario or Donkey Kong. Little Big Planet is the only non Ninty 2d plat that actually put up good numbers on their releases and as much as i do enjoy that series that probably has mroe to do with the creator tools than actual platforming.

I was hoping to see resurgence, but people have it in their minds 2D = budget title.  Thing is Puppeteer was $40 day one so not like Sony thought it was $60 game even.

you did see a resurgence...online. Lots of games there. You want to see it on shelves that aint gonna happen, not with these sales. IMO i dont see the big deal, why pay more money for something when you can get it for cheaper. If they want to make thse games budget then that only favors customers and their wallet.

Did this include indie games witch are exclusive to psn?

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

I'm enjoying Puppeteer but I have to admit I also expected it would be a $14.99 or $19.99 PSN title. It's definitely worth the $40 for a physical release yet Steam and indie games have lowered my price expectations for these kind of games. Once you play it you see the production values but on a glance it looks like a downloadable title.

The value of downloadable games feels like it has gone down too. I skipped brothers a tale of two sons and bought Anti Chamber and Cities in Motion 2 together for less on Steam. There is an abundance of cheap games nowadays, only the huge hyped AAA release can still sell well at full price.

True.  If what you are suggesting comes to past be fine.  I have bought plenty of those games (Ducktales just recently). I just worry mean end of high end 2D platformers like a Rayman Legends (a series I am guessing is pretty much done after its sales).  I guess learn again to take what I can get for my gaming tastes.
