Dark/Demon Souls is a Western emulating JRPG.

Still a JRPG. Them armor designs man.

(Actually now that I think about it Xenoblade has a lot of Western elements of design as well)

I have a difficult time understanding why so many people say that Demon's Souls/Dark Souls are emulating Western RPGs when both From Software titles have elements that are often featured in Japanese-developed games like minimalist storytelling (e.g., Ico, Shadow of the Colossus) and emphasis on combat.  The Souls games are also spiritual successors to From Software's King's Field series, which released roughly around the same time as The Elder Scrolls: Arena.

Obviously the Souls games can trace their roots to pen-and-paper role-playing games and early games like Wizardry, but the same can be said of games like Dragon Quest.  I'd even say that the Souls games have much more in common with games like Shadow of the Colossus or Castlevania than they do with games like Planscape: Torment, Baldur's Gate, or Icewind Dale.

Demon's Souls and Dark Souls are obviously different than games like Final Fantasy, Persona, or Tales of games, but they're ultimately still RPGs influenced by Japanese game development.

I'm glad with 1st and 2nd position.

I fucking love Persona 4 (The Golden) probably one of the best games i have ever played in a portable device.

What I got out of this list are that Final Fantasy 9, Chrono Cross, Persona 4, and Mario and Luigi are way overrated.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Still need to play Persona 4.

That's the kind of crime that would get you burned at the stake.

I COULD play the PS2 version but I wanna play it on the Vita (TV). xD

I think you should play the PS2 version (dirt cheap now) while waiting for the VITA TV. Both versions are awesome and you'll enjoy P4G just as much after playing P4. I played pretty much every iteration of P3 and P4. Original P3, P3:FES, P3P, P4 and P4G (also P4A) and I enjoyed each and every single one of them.

I don't care much about placements in such lists because everybody will have a reason to disagree, so my personal opinion is not relevant here. What I have to say is that the list is quite decent since most people agree that most games listed are, if not the best, at least very good.

What is sad, however, is that if you go to gamerankings and make a query for RPGs, JRPGs are overshadowed by recent western RPGs. Arguably, the last generation has not been very good for JRPGs, but it looks like almost every good western RPG is considered better than the best ever JRPGs.

Final Fantasy VIII is on that list? Pfff...
