Forums - Sony Discussion - Original PS4 design had 4GB RAM

No one knows what the future holds for the industry but one day we may look back at Sony and the PS4 as the console that saved gaming. If Xbone had released and went on to be successful in it's first, DRM happy form, we all would have been screwed.

Oh, the hypocrisy.

Ex Graphics Whore.

I wish it was more powerful all round. By the time next gen has finished smart phones will be as powerful as the the PS4

Oh cmon does anyone seriously beleive that tablets will match consoles on power and much less smartphones.

I do, Smart phones have nearly caught up to the PS3, and with the jump in graphics much smaller next gen there is a good chance they will catch up.

Me too. More powerful tablets will definitely be available within a few years.

Yep probably but they will also cost 2-3x more as well.

I don't think people are realizing how big that gap actually is.

Yes there is possibility that they will catch up in 5 years if they double the performance every year, but not so sure that's very likely. Besides, given how actually pretty average are GPUs inside next-gens, I'd be honestly surprised to see them last longer that those 5 years.

of course, but then they will be so much more than just gaming devices and obviouisly the games will be much cheaper.

But they will still most likely be throw away games still, not the big budget consoles games most around here enjoy.

It's inevitable with the tablets.

When talking about smartphones, keep in mind that the current flagship models are 4x more powerful than they were 2 years ago. You're already hearing stuff such as Quad-core 2.4 Ghz Snapdragon 800 with 2 or even 3 GB of RAM.

Huh?

Steam on a Windows tablet won't provide big budget games?

well now your bluring the lines between tablets and laptops, although the distinctions are getting less and less, thanks to windows 8

You're thinking of the NES.

It had to be doubled for that beastly OS.

Its not me blurring the lines, its the market.  A laptop hybrid or surface-pro-like device will have very good specs within a very short time frame.

hdmi out to a large TV and a wireless controller and you have a pc, laptop, tablet and powerful gaming device in one small package, home and away.

Have to be more powerfull to match the quality in games tho, what with all the overheads windows and apis for not being a dedicated specfication.

I also think it might be more than a couple of years before we see them shipping with graphics memory than can match a unified 5GB.

Processing power will be soon tho.

You think? (Look at Offscreen performance numbers for balanced comparison)

As I already said, people just don't realize how wide that gap is, and sooner or later, mobile performance jump year over year will start plateauing due to TDP.
