Forums - Gaming Discussion - Sony details PS3 to Ps4 game upgrade plan

http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/09/19/10-ps4-game-upgrade-process-detailed-by-sony

IS it just me, or does this make it sound like if PS4 recognizes ps3 discs, wouldn't gaikai also work this way? i hope so it would be a great feature.

what part of "In the case of a physical PS3 copy, a code is included in the box that must be redeemed on the PlayStation Store (which can be done on PS3)." sounds like it recognizes the disc?

haha, i almost made the same post. later in the paragraph it mentions the ps3 disc has to be in the ps4 to play the digital copy you get from the psn store

Edit: "After downloading the game, you'll have to insert the PS3 game disc for the PS4 digital game to be playable -- a measure presumably intended to prevent sales being lost by people getting a PS4 game for $10 and then selling off the PS3 copy to someone else."

Maybe i'm crazy(Good chance), but the way I rad it is the ps4 can read some data from ps3 discs, and it sounds like that may be the way gaikai will also work. Just speculation on my part, nothing concrete.

Because you have to put the disc in too. Otherwise you can't play the downloaded game.

I'd buy digital if I was anyone looking to utilise this.

There's still an advantage, the disc is only in the system as a disc check option.  Let's say you're not playing the game though and a friend who owns a PS3 wants to borrow it.  They can play the retail copy on the PS3.

Fantastic news... most games I own have digital versions... so I will can play may backlog on PS4.

THAT'S AMAZING.

Like I said that I wanted to Gaikai works... I said in the past that for me the best backward compatibility will be if you put the PS3 disc on PS4 tray and can play this game over Gaikai... so all games I own in physical versions I can play on PS4 via BC.

That is even better than what I was hopping.

Thanks Sony... now I won't need to have my PS3 (my little brother will receive a gift soon).

I need double post this time.

BEST THING EVER!

That's pretty nice, actually.

I was already thinking about that after I get my PS4... so the only thing holding was the fact I will need the PS3 to play some old games like GT6 and Beyond... so I will need to have either for some time.

But if that Sony's news worked then I will can give my PS3 to him because I will can play my PS3 games on PS4... I loved this feature.

Agree, this can be a killer feature, especially if gaikai works with the discs.
