Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U games in 1080p 60fps: Does it really sell games or matter?

1080p does not sell games or matter to me. To some people, it seems to matter. Maybe if I had a 55 inch TV I would care.

60 fps does not sell me games, but it is much appreciated in most. In technical fighting games it is absolutely necessary. 30 fps in a fighting game is a joke.

I will say that whether 30 or 60 fps, I appreciate Nintendo games for rarely dropping in framerate. I've experienced a lot of lag in a lot of games, but almost never in Nintendo games. That's a really big deal to me. I wouldn't necessarily say I buy Nintendo games because of their steady framerates, but I would say that I've been spoiled by their nice framerates and it's a contributing factor to my perception of Nintendo games being of high quality.

If I got to choose, I would always pick 60 fps over 1080p. It's funny because I still can't get over the way live-action stuff looks like a soap opera at 60 fps, but video games just look so smooth and gorgeous when they get there. I really feel like I can see the difference between 30 and 60. I'm glad they're aiming for 60 fps in Mario Kart 8, and the idea of HD Zelda with that kind of visual polish makes my mouth water. EAD3 did spectacular things with the Wii... to think what they'll be able to do with the Wii U...

No only games matter :)

It's the games, Zelda U in HD doesn't get you excited. The thought that the Wii U can push 1080P at 60 fps. Just to dream what a Metroid HD would look like is why I like to talk Nintendo's hardware. Nintendo fanboys don't need to prove anything, they will buy Nintendo consoles regardless in all it's glory. With all the noise with the coming other consoles and its power. Most are just thinking out loud to remind us we aren't missing anything.

Try to convince an average 360/PS3 owner that despite his/her console display settings saying 1080p the game isn't. Or alternatively, ask him/her if he know what "native resolution" means. The mass market don't know and don't care about resolution.

Framerate? I doubt it. I've never heard somebody in real life (and barely anybody on internet) complaining about it in Shadow of the Colossus.

1080p and 60FPS definetely doesn't sell games or games like Wipeout HD, would have sold like hotcakes and studio livepool would be in business.

It definitely matters to some people like me. 60 FPS, and 1080p for me is huge and I'll rebuy console games I really like later on PC even if nothing else was added.

Developers could implement the option fairly easy by having 2 modes. Fancy graphics for 1, and then 60FPS with like SSAO, Tesselation, and Various Particle effects reduced.

It's not really that it sells the game. But this is supose to be a standard now. Everyone is expecting it. It be like someone making a game, but with Atari graphics. Unless that was the whole point of the game. No one would buy it if it where COD, normally.

How is this the standar? Plenty of PS4 and Xbox One games can't do 1080p and 60fps.

I've allways seen it as once u go 60FPS going below it just doesnt feel great anymore. I do wish most games would run 1080p, especially since I bought a full HD TV ages ago and not many games really go for 1080p. =/
in the end though, I think its gonna be a matter of time when games start pushing some boundaries and developers have to sacrifice resolution/FPS for better performance.

i don't really think that 720p or 1080p will really help to sell games on console (maybe a few). i don't even think on ps4 or xbox one but 30 or 60fps will change sales. 60fps just feels better for many games and i wouldn't buy some games with 30fps.

I remember when I got my PS3 and I kept hearing how awesome 1080p 60FPS full HD was. I fell for the hype on the internet and got Wipeout HD. I think I played that game for exactly one track. Wasn't impressed. Never touched it since. Didn't even notice the graphics, either.

With so many games already running sub 720p this last gen and still looking stunning when upscaled, I don't really care about native 1080p. Framerate issues are noticeable but never really an issue. The only thing that bothers me is constant screen tearing and that's not much of a problem these days. Early in the PS3/360 lifespan, though....

So, in my opinion, it absolutely doesn't matter to the vast majority of gamers.

People seem to go crazy over this on this site. To me it really does not matter. Maybe I am not technical enough to even give a crap?

Does this make you interested in the game now? Or is it just nice to prove the Wii U has power? What is so hot about this subject?

60FPS is a selling point for me. I am very dissappointed that almost all PS4 games (even Drive-Club, a racing game!) has only 30FPS. At least they seem to have vsync now ...

Even on the Wii most games had 60FPS with vsync, and it seems most Wii U games tend to have 60 FPS/vsync too (and look graphically impressive, like Mario Kart, Smash Bro, Bayonetta 2 etc.). Some of these games have 1080p on top of that! Seems the Wii U with its heavily modified Non-Standard-GPU/CPU has surprising powers.

For me 30FPS and vsync are the minimum criteria for a lot of genres (shooter, beat'em up, jump&run, racing) and this criteria are the reason I skipped a lot of PS360 games. I can't stand a game of this genres with tearing or FPS below 30. For Jump&Run, Beat'em Up & Racing 60 FPS are the minimum.
