Naughtywho? (joke, don't kill me pls)

But seriously.....the problem with higher budgets is that developers tend to play it safe. Also indie's don't have any pressure from publishers. They can do what they want.

The probably with AAA developers is it is hard to make a super creative game and have everyones thoughts go into the process when you have hundreds of people and a handful of directors. In he indies you have smaller teams which means everyone can put their two cents in (at least in the west).

ND can't learn very much from indies, that's like saying Ronaldo can learn something from player in Bosnian league.

please dont compare naughty dog with ronaldo. Naughty dog atleast have some talent.

ND could learn some things from indies as well, regarding gameplay.

I don't know about narrative and character tropes, but I do think that AAA developers' design and gameplay could take a page from indies. Like when limited hardware forced creative design out of developers in times past, limited budgets do the same to indies today. It would be nice if AAA devs cared more about finding a unique gameplay hook and less about particle effects.

I agree with whatever ND says.

ND says DRM and always online should be on next gen consoles.

fine with me

The opinion of one man =/= opinion of an entire studio.

Indie devs are overrated. A lot of the highly praised titles really aren't that good. Super Meat Boy and Retro Boring As Hell City Rampage for example, but then you got some of them that are actually extremely good, with more examples, games like Jamestown, Cave Story, Bit.Trip. games and (from what I've heard,) Torchlight, as long as you're into the genres . The name indie for indie devs also makes no sense. Large publishers like Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, EA, Activision, are indie devs while most indie devs actually aren't indie devs.

Indie is short for independent. Larger publishers don't need loans in order to create games. They are what you would call independent. They should probably call most indie devs now days Depenees or something like that, because 90% of them are either funded by one of the larger publishers or they beg for money on Kickstarter from the consumer base. There are actual indie devs, but most indie devs aren't actually indie devs.

I really liked Retro City but I tend to agree with you.  Most indies stink and self publishing is going to make it really hard to sift through the crap.  Most of the "indie" games I've enjoyed are in fact not indie but just have the aesthetic like Walking Dead, Journey, and Flower.  TRULY indie games I liked I can count on one hand.

maybe they themselves could learn how to make games rather than interactive movies.
