I don't think the success of failure of Wii U rests on whether or not Ninty should have secured GTAV.

If they got GTA V Wii U would not sell substantially better than it already is. Not having GTAV is not causing Wii U to sell worse than its market potential.

GTA V would be great for Nintendo. But Nintendo has superior games on sales. Not just that but on quantity also. Remember, one game will not do much as a complete library. Nintendo has been releasing their library since Pikmin 3.

No, nothing beats GTA V

http://www.vgchartz.com/game/6968/mario-kart-wii/ TOTAL SALES: 33 Million

http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=grand+theft+auto+IV&publisher=&platform=&genre=&minSales=0&results=200 TOTAL SALES (ALL PLATFORMS): 21.03 Million

Wanna try again?

nintendo doesn't exactly control where gta releases.

Nintendo doesn't need GTA. It would bomb on the Wii U and wouldn't sell any systems. That audience is pretty much entirely monopolized by Sony/MS. Just having a port of the game is not enough to fight them for that audience.

The types of third party games that sell on Wii U are things like Disney Infinite and Sonic, which fall in line with other Nintendo family friendly IP.

I agree. Even Legends looks like it will (long run) sell the most on either Wii U or PC as opposed to 360/ps3.

I would like to add Scribblenauts to the list of third-party games that normally sell on Nintendo platforms.

I don't think there is anyone who just owns a WiiU that was under the delusion that GTAV was likely to appear on that console, Rockstar hasn't had much to do with Nintendo for a long time and people owning Nintendo consoles know this.

If the WiiU had everything else 3rd party except for GTAV then I could it being more strategically important. i.e. chance of keeping WiiU owners as WiiU only owners, but that's just not the case.

If an alternate reality GTAV might have been some nice icing on the WiiU cake, but honestly speaking the cake isn't even in the oven yet.

im pretty sure ppl(majority) would hold out for a couple of months if nin got 2 a month exclusive

i think this is why no GTA V on Wii U
in the 360 version there's no hello kitty

To date there has never been a GTA game on a Nintendo home console which I don't get since it could only mean more sales for Rockstar.

To answer you question: yes, it's a huge mistake. How can the console stay relevent of it's the only one that won't have one of the biggest games of the year? I say it all but sealed it's fate.
