Forums - Sales Discussion - Xbox 360 sales abyssmal

The 360 is cheaper in Japan relative to everywhere else. The Xmas bundle last year was a 250gb machine with Skyrim and Forza 4 for 20,000yen ($200).

"Worst ever" can not be true either as the original Xbox, Pippin, Playdia, Sony PSX, 3DO, Jaguar, and many other systems that released here in Japan sold much worse.

I bet if M$ partnered with a Japanese company like Panasonic and licensed the XB1 hardware out to them in Japan and released it under their brand name, it would be more successful.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Would it be right to say that the xbox/xbox360 sales in Japan are the worst ever in the history of gaming?

Not even close to the worst when you consider the industry as a whole.  There have been dozens of consoles that failed globally and performed far worse in Japan than did the Xbox/X360.

By far the worst in terms of the major consoles though.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

This generation Xbox conquered America aka the biggest market for gaming. In the 8th generation of consoles Microsofts sights are set on Europe, Microsoft may just get its way for the 2nd generation in a row.
Maybe during the ninth generation they finally penetrate Japan.

Yes and yet the 360 is one of the best selling home consoles in history globally.

Amazing huh?

No, no really. its one of the best selling of all  time in USA and the market has grown incredibly over time. Every console broke 75mil this gen, 1 even made the 150m mark

Because Japanese people don't care about crappy hardware. Their companies are known for the best hardware in the world among others.

Groan. I recall having to play my original Playstation on its side and eventually upside down for it to work. The PS2 wasn't very durable, and my fat PS3 sounded like a leaf blower within a year. My local HardOff has stacks and stacks of defective Sony PSX consoles (usually because of defective harddrives) in their junk section. Quality obviously doesn't enter into the equation.
