Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 still has 'triple-A exclusives' in development, Sony responds to lack of new Uncharted

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) chief Jim Ryan has responded to the lack of a new Uncharted announcement, confirming PlayStation 4 still has a number of "triple-A exclusives" in development.

Speaking to MCV in an interview this week, Ryan was quizzed whether he thought the platform holder’s Gamescom offering lacked a major software announcement, such as a new entry from Naughty Dog's Uncharted series.

He replied: “You are on a never-ending treadmill of these events and you have to get the balance between doing too much at one and not having enough at the next. We felt having that slightly different approach at Gamescom worked. But then you will have different days, when someone – hopefully me – will get on a stage and announce a triple-A exclusive, because those games are being made.”

The most recent entry in the God of War franchise, Ascension, was released exclusively for PS3 in March. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception hit stores in November 2011, and to date is the most recent console offering in the franchise.

PS4 is due out in North America on November 15 and hits Europe on November 29, priced $399/£349.

Shocking news, Sony have other games in development.

Uncharted should be a 7th Gen game, leave it there. I would like a new franchise.

Hmm, pie.

I really don't get the criticisms about the lack of AAA titles at launch. Look back at the previous 3 Sony consoles and tell me what killer AAA exclusives were available at launch for them? Resistance? Ridge Racer? Timesplitters? Silent Scope? Those launch lineups don't even come close to what the PS4 (or X1) will have available at launch.

Also, you don't want to release too many AAA titles around launch time because the userbase is still small in the first year. Plus honestly, given the number of great 1st party and 3rd party games already coming out during the launch window, how many people actually won't have enough games to play?

I'm going to be getting Killzone, Battlefield, Watchdogs, ACIV, and Driveclub at launch. That will be more than enough games to keep me busy for the rest of the year. And that's not including GTA 5 and GT6.

Phew! Good that Ryan said that. I thought there won't be any new games after the launch window games release.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

It's weird that he has to clarify this.

Sony don't need to announce them yet. They've got plenty of people on board for the launch and then some.

Early next year, then yeah, I'd start expecting more announcements.

im hoping that the VGA's has either Santa monica's, Naughty dog's, or Geurrilla games new IP announced. if not, im going on a killing streak

No i thought they wasnt supporting the ps4 at all -_-

The main complaint people has is that it has very little to offer or have shown for the incoming future.

People do know games are in development though.  I wouldnt take people as dumb. Just not patient.

Lets look at what ND did this generation.

Holiday 2007 - Uncharted
Holiday 2009 - Uncharted 2
Holiday 2011 - Uncharted 3
Summer 2013 - The Last of Us

So I see it going this way...

Holiday 2014 - Uncharted 4
Holiday 2016 - Uncharted 5
Holiday 2017 -The Last of Us 2

Full production into U4, followed by the team split again with the U3 team working on U5 and TLoU team working on TLoU2. After this, no idea. We may get Uncharted 6 or another new IP.

Now, for Sony Santa Monica its different because they work with so many other dev teams. God of War 4 will likely be released 2015/16, but hints at a new IP are quite strong...

2014 should be very interesting as many more developers get well into development on PS4.
