Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Penello on X1 vs PS4: "Developers are confirming cross platform games are running the same on both platforms":

werent we expecting devs to target parity as much as possible due to sensitive fans?

no,devs target parity due to economical reasons.

Why invest more when you can get away by doing nothing.(expect a more solid framerate and a little better AA,at best some better lighning or shadowing -things that can be done pretty cheap and easy)

360 usually ran multiplats better than PS4 though. So how do you explain that?

I agree somewhat with your overall claim.

But in the flip side, the smallest difference will be magnified  on message boards "what? PS4 renders two more pixels???? PS4 BLOW AWAY XBOX ONE VERSION" etc.

In the past Penello has said more like "differnce wont be that big", but here he's saying developers are telling him they are equal.

That's not what they are saying.

Devs are saying that GAMES run the same on both consoles, which is kind of expected given that it's the first batch of games and that most studios are working with game engines not optimized to work for either console.

The differences in power, if there are any, will start to become more noticeable once devs get used with the consoles and the engines are tweaked to take advantage of each console's strengths.

I'm not sure I agree with that because BOTH consoles will improve.

Wherever Ps4 starts out, it will get better as software is optimized.

BUT

The same holds true for X1.

That is true, but given they are all PC ports, they have different options easily tweakable. I don't think it would cost that much, but with a small discrepancy, I don't think it really matters to them

Its fairly telling when this gen nearly all shown versions or pre release games were the 360 build, and weve not seen even ONE multiplat game running for Xbox One, wonder why? Not the best version to show perhaps?

You won't see massive differences between both versions. I bet my name on here.

It's just that simple.

What multiplats have been seen on PS4???

Besides all those were running on PC not PS4. Such as Need for Speed Rivals 'PS4 version" which crashed to a windows desktop at Gamescom.

It's more true to say all multiplats basically havent been seen much on PS4 or X1...

Watch Dogs has been shown on youtube with PS4 button prompts, but OTOH the graphics seem to be getting less impressive over time so I'm not sure that's a good thing.

I will say a couple games have shown "PS4 versions". But in many cases it's just cause Ubisoft is more allied with Sony I think (but EA and Activision are more allied with MS). That's why AC4, The Division, and Watch Dogs tend to be so called PS4 versions.

Guess the other one I've noticed on PS4 is NFS Rivals, which is an EA game so the above doesn't apply, but again that was actually PC.

I'd say the best way to put it is the "real" console versions of multiplats haven't really been seen much yet if at all. We have to rely on the exclusives right now to be sure something is running on actual console hardware.

Assasins creed, Watchdogs and BattleField 4.

So 2 Ubisoft 1 EA

You do realize that I didn't mention any console, right? And that I didn't even take for granted that such difference between them exists? And that I talked in plural saying that devs will get used with the consoleS and their strengthS?

There's no need to be so defensive.

And of course games will get better. We would have a very big problem if they weren't!

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

BF4 was also shown on X1 at e3 press conference (but it was PC to X1 specs, especially way back then)

And the BF4 version at Gamescom was ripped on IGN for looking bad, so I wouldn't tout that for PS4.

I wasn't being defensive. Not sure where you got that.
