Forums - Gaming Discussion - My fellow Nintendo fans, why can't we be more like Sony fans?

Why would you want that at all? A wise man once said, I stay away from Sony, Just because of the fans.

"Nintendo fans: Always depressed for no good reason. Sony fans: Always excited for no good reason."

Words of wisdom indeed. The best example that comes to mind for the purpose of this topic are the Wii U and Vita as a whole. While Nintendo fans are critical of the system itself as well as Nintendo, (most) Sony fans apparently couldn't be happier.

Why did Nintendo fans want to buy Wii Us? Primarily to play great Nintendo games, and perhaps whatever good third party games might hit the system. What happened? A lengthy Nintendo software drought. The reaction? Anger and disappointment, so people didn't hesitate to get their pitchforks ready and grill Nintendo for their pathetic execution.

Why did Sony fans want to buy Vitas? Powerful hardware, great third party support, first party games. What happened? Third party support is questionable and nowadays mostly comes from indie developers who don't push the hardware which in turn lets Vita's power go to waste; Sony's first party studios are focused on other systems. The reaction? Pretty much everything is right in the world and Sony is doing a good job with the Vita.

Now that's not to say that every single Nintendo and Sony fan reacted in the described manner, but the majority did. So I'll ask: Where's the positivity among Nintendo fans? Why can't we praise downloadable games as the second coming? Why can't we be happy about the little things we get instead of endlessly complaining about what we don't get? The Wii U already has so many good games to play, but for some reason we are entitled pricks who demand new exclusive content all the damn time.

Stop, trying to start pointless fan wars. I'm a gaming fan,how about them apples?

Cocky pricks? Disliking all videos that mention the competition? Overly defensive and immature a-holes? No thanks. I'm proud to be a Nintendo fan. I'm there for the game, it's gameplay, and the fun. I could give less a sh*t about the "Gwafiks" and the GDDR5 RAM.

P.S. I'm getting a PS4 and Xbox One at launch. So I'm not a fanboy.

The fact that you buy a system doesn't make you a non-fanboy or a non-hater, it's what you say that makes you seem like the opposite.

So it is happening...PS4 preorder.

Greatness Awaits!

I think the problem is (yet again) Nintendo fans set their expectations way too high. I remember before the Wii launched a lot of Nintendo fans pushing the line that you wouldn't be able to notice a difference in graphics between Wii and 360/PS3, the main difference would be one would run in HD and that's it. And that we'd get all these amazing experiences with motion control like a lightsaber game and tons of great FPS games and so on.

And that developers would abandon PS3/360 because HD development was too costly and making Wii games would be cheaper, etc. etc. etc.

With Wii U again, I think some of the hyperbole got out of control. Remember this?

Sony fans tend to be happy because Sony more or less simply gives them what they want -- relatively bleeding edge tech, good online, embracing new trends in gaming, lots of "grown up" IP, and most importantly a high variety of games from themselves and third party partners.

Sony's biggest screw up was the $600 PS3, but within a year you could get a 40GB PS3 for $399.99, so that was largely a short lived complaint.

Nintendo fans are constantly put into a bind because we love Nintendo games, but are forced to endure some incredibly archaic hardware policies to get those games -- paying top dollar for outdated hardware, having to "buy in" to the philosophy of each hardware being now tied to a novelty (3D screen! 2D screen controller!) rather than the NES/SNES/N64/GCN days, suffering with a horrible OS and online policies (no account based system), and the perpetual situation of piss poor third party support ... eventually begins to grate on a consumer.

The smarter you are, the less happy you are. Thats fact.

The problem is, if Nintendo fans try to be more like Sony fans they become Microsoft fans.

Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3D Worlds, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Deus Ex: HRDC, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts all is coming this year. Who are these people that is depressed, I need to have a talk with them.

I wonder that too. Also the words of wisdom were expressed by okr. Credit to him and his adventure game loving soul.

Good point. Sony fans tend to have realistic expectations.

And on the same note, people put Blaine Gabbert into their fantasy football team.

It's not so much realisitic expectations as it is that Sony tends to simply just give their fans what they want most of the time. Aside from a few gripes like expensive Vita memory cards, they have little to complain about.

On Nintendo's side we haven't gotten proper third party support for like 15 years now (lol) which means we always put up with droughts, the online system is still pretty terrible (no account system, frustratingly horrible virtual console policies, lack of people to play with, major Nintendo refuse to support online play, etc.), we are asked to pay a pretty penny for hardware that is honestly 4-5 years behind at least what everyone else is making, we're asked to "suck it up" with regards to expectations to major IP (presentation doesn't matter for 2D Mario, you will take our recycled art style for 4 straight games and like it, story/voice acting doesn't matter for Zelda, you want an epic Mario? Ha! You will buy 3D World and like it! etc. etc. etc.). And lets not get started on how Nintendo treats their consoles in the last few years of each console cycle, even the top selling Wii got abandoned.

I love Nintendo games, but it is a bit like an abusive spouse relationship, lol. At least we got Ambassador games for the 3DS debacle. Sony fans ... well their situation is more like a loving marriage where one spouse complains about things like the other one leaving their socks on the floor or something, lol. They have it pretty easy.
