Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Wii U "Price Cut" Will Have Little Effect! Also, Will You Buy One Now!? <(o_O<)

After the price cut, will you buy Wii U?

Heck yeah!!! 197 60.62%

The purpose was to separate itself from the PS4/XO in terms of price for those who hold that to be an issue. This is generally a factor that is only really important over Christmas, when cost-conscious parents are the ones doing the buying. In that regard, it might help.

I also don't think Nintendo should sell consoles at much of a loss, even if that means losing market share. With their current model of being cheaper with lower system specs, it's better that they carve out their own niche instead of trying to compete directly. I think a lot of Nintendo fans just need to accept that most Nintendo consoles are going to settle closer to N64 numbers than to Wii numbers.

As for buying one, no. Other than Project X, I don't see much on Nintendo's horizon that interests me.

What you expected a $100 drop?

i don't know why people were expecting that nintendo is already taking enough of a lost on the system as it is and i imagine it was hard for them just to cut it to 300$

Yes right now, but I was thinking they could manage a $100 drop next year with MK8's release or something.

Stores have dropped the price before to get rid of the excess inventory, and sales really didn't pick up all that much. So no, I don't think it will make a difference.

All they need is a big advertising campaign in the run up to christmas, show a little Super Mario 3D World and no doubt there will be a surge in sales.

I already have one. And yes, I think the price - combined with games will have an impact. Before people were incorrectly comparing the Deluxe Wii U with the Basic PS4 and saying it was a $50 difference. Now the price difference will be AT LEAST $100 by any comparison. And no one liked the basic and it was devaluing the product. I think the $299 Zelda package will look great to many people.

Buying a Wii U was an inevitability for me. I had been leaning toward the Basic model anyway because of the price, with a few reservations because of that nice 32-gig cushion on the Deluxe. Dropping the Deluxe to the price of the Basic model does not save me money, so I don't see this as a price drop. But I do feel that this will speed up the process of acquiring my Wii U.

So no, I'm not picking one up immediately on September 20, but the whole package does look more attractive to me now, and I can see myself buying one sooner than I would have before.

I am okay with this. I like Nintendo's "less power, lower cost" strategy. I wish more third parties were on board with it as well.

Wii U Basic at 300$ was just a terrible value, likely why many avoided buying the console. Now that people realize that with 300$ they're getting all of the Deluxe/Premium stuff, plus a free game, it would sound like a much better value than 300$ with 8GB memory, no accessories, and no free game. Will people notice this difference? Well, those who will buy consoles this holiday season (who buy stuff for family, friends, kids, etc) they'll want the best value for what they can find. I think 300$ for what Nintendo is selling is good enough. Enough of this "omg still too expensive" nonsense, you're not just getting a 180$-200$ console (like it or not, the insides are worth this much, it's not cheap tech), you're also getting a controller with a screen, a free game, and several accessories.

As for it selling more due to the price drop, maybe a few extra thousands per week, but that'll be about it. It just needs games to sell more.

They did that with the white basic model and that got me to buy one =)

It was to increase the value at the said price point. I agree it wont do much, at least until the big games start rolling out.

e=mc^2

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

Its not about the price for me, its about the games. If it has the games people will fork out the money for it.

I've already decided ill buy one when SSB comes out, because I never owned a Wii ill also get to play all the games I missed out on.
