Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Major Nelson on X1 Power: "I can't wait for the truth to come out."

Isn't this the same guy who verbally chastised a video game journalist in an interview after E3 that DRM was built into the X1 from its inception and MS couldn't simply "flip a switch" and remove it...then a week later MS indeed 'flipped the switch' and removed it?  Why should we believe anything that comes out of this MS spin doctor's mouth?

Well to be honest MS didn't flip a switch and remove the DRM, they dropped the whole online part of the X1 and turned it into a 360.  There was absolutely nothing incorrect about Larry statement because you cannot just go in and take out code that’s a part of the console especially when its so integrated that removing it would be a colossal effort. Any such changes can produce endless amounts of bugs and code changes and as a result, MS had to drop the whole thing.  Its easier and smarter on a code point to start from the beginning them to try to remove something that is probably touching every part of the software.

Since I work as a developer on projects that include customers what’s, there have been times when a customer realize something was important or they did not like a feature they ask for and wanted it removed that it caused the project to be restarted almost from scratch.  Without having a coding background people really do not know how even small changes can sometimes create huge amount of reworking of code.

They used to say how power doesn't matter, but now they seem to be talking about it a lot.

But isn't the quoted statements saying exactly that.  Its saying that the games will show the difference in the 2 consoles not the specs listed for both consoles.  Not sure maybe my reading comprehension skills is not working but that still seems to be the message.

The problem with all these talking points, and that's all these are, talking points, is that they're aimed at informed, core gamers who know their stuff. They're not going to fool anyone in that category. All this non stop PR about cloud BC, cloud computing, minute CPU bumps etc. is a waste of time. The dye has been cast.

What they SHOULD be doing, imo, is refocusing their brand toward games and away from casual features like TV and the NFL. They should secure more Titanfall like IPs, and attack that way.

whats the point of having hidden specs and a secret processor. why hide it now? sony cant really change anything, they already have warehouses filled with systems built. If MS had anything that was actually more powerful they would be shouting it as loud as they can. Like cloud...

So people will not keep asking questions like this lets talk about why its suppose to be a secrete as far as the rumor is concerned.  There is a NDA, meaning non disclosure agreement that prevents MS from saying anything about the rumored discrete graphics chip within the X1.  So for people who keep asking the question why would MS bla bla, its because they cannot until after Sept 29th.

Now thats the rumor whether any of it is true is left to speculation but for people who continue to say MS would tell the world why they have the most powerful hardware if the rumor is true thats the reason.

There is nothing within Larry or anyone from MS words that make you believe there is such a part in the X1.  Instead it sounds like what many developers that are working on both systems have stated.  The difference between both systems are small.

MS put up the NDA but MS can talk freely about the X1 but everybody else outside of MS - developer, harware manufacture etc - have to keep their mouths shut. At this point MS have no advantage by keeping specs info quiet. PS4 is already in mass production

Actually no thats not correct.  The rumor states the NDA is between MS and AMD and Intel.  Its AMD NDA because on the 29th they will be releasing info on their next APU/GPU that contains this discrete GPU.  I forget what thread name it is but people can actually go read up on it that way at least we are all on the same page. Of course this is if anyone is mentioning the rumor of the dGPU.

Except there's been a bunch of leaked hardware slides stating exactly what's in the Xbox One.... We already know what's inside.

You know I realized that these type of articles I see the same type of comments over and over.........

What I find is that core gamers are definitely not people who know their stuff.  Most only go on what a company tells them or info they have learned from a forum.  Most do not have the technical skill to determine if the info they are receiving is correct or not.  Most form their opinion before they know a shread of proof on a product and even when they heae the truth they are quick to rationalize it away.  Its PR that sway the mind of the people on the fence not the people who have already made up their mind.  People who have formed an opinion are hard to give it up so going after them is wastefull.

As for the dye being cast, nothing is set in stone until the devices actually ship.  Nothing today will define the PS4 or the X1 because both will do their primary role which is play games and things that separate the 2 will be the games that define the system and the services that add value to each console.

As to MS focus on games, they already stated they are spending a billion in that direction.  Seems like a lot of money to fund a lot of Titanfalls.  The thing is you will not see all of that money spent just on release.  This is not a sprint but a marathon.  That billion dollars will be funding games, development studios and IPs for years to come.  Just because you do not get all the meat on the plate at once doesn't mean there isn't a lot of stuff happening behind the scenes.

Wait til September 29th+ when the NDA ends

At the end of the day you can say how much more powerful A console is over B, but i can guarantee the games will look the bloody same on both consoles. Multiplats will look even more similar than last gen, and it will be even harder to tell what exclusives look better than last gen. If you really think the Ps4 will be this beast of a console that has unmatched power, your going to be very disappointed.

Bullshizzle.

Just admit you don't know what you're talking about.

I'm not a hardware engineer that knows how everything works in these systems and I'm not acting like I do, but neither is 90% of the gaming community that loves to copy and paste specs that they themselves most of the time don't understand. I'm not sayin ps4 isn't a more powerful system because I'm sure it is, but if you believe these systems games will look vastly different from each other, I don't know what to tell you.
